My wife likes to pick on me about my air gun affliction. No doubt she was on high alert this weekend after watching me unpack a Crosman 2289 carbine from Pyramyd Air delivered Saturday.

This afternoon my oldest boy and I were out shooting in the back yard, swapping the new Crosman back and forth. He would shoot his Daisy 880 when I had it, and I would shoot the B51 PCP when he had it. She was sitting next to us reading a book when my boy asked if she'd like to shoot the Crosman. He was shooting paper at 11 yards with the open sights at the time. She agreed. 15 minutes later she was still holding the Crosman, trying to knock a pine cone off the top of the target board at 25 yards. That wasn't going so well for her so she asked to use the B51. She's no dummy, having just watched me pick off individual beads from a Mardi Gras necklace hanging from the same target board. The first shot was a miss so I watched her line up for the next shot and noticed she was holding her head back probably 10 inches from the ocular bell. We addressed that and I watched a blast of debris fly off the pine cone as it tumbled through the air. I think it was a center hit. I looked over and she had a big ole grin on her face.

Later this evening at the dinner table she made a stunning admission.

"I need to tell you something, and this is hard for me to say", she started. My ears perked up, as did those of my 7 year old son. "I had fun shooting with you today." What was this I was hearing? She continued, "It was really fun, the most fun I had all day!".

Later I got to thinking about the "most fun I had all day" comment. We have four boys aged 2 through 7, so fun in the form of recreation tends to come in small doses. Other highlights of her day today included such activities as loading the dishwasher, raking leaves, dusting off the bookshelves, and using a garden hose to rinse liquid excrement off the rug from the playroom floor, thanks to a stomach bug harbored by our 2 year old.

But hey, I'll scratch this one as a win on the scoreboard.

its quality not quantity right.

with 4 boys both of you have your hands full. congrats on some quality family time.

My wife still wont shoot. But she did watch for a while today as my daughter-in-law was laying the smack down on my spinner target. She was shooting my CZ200s and nailing the 3/8" target from 30 yards.

Yup, it's rare for my wife to shoot but once she gets her hands a rifle I'll never get it back.

My wife will plink in the backyard with me from time to time. She only uses the pistols (and I have to cock them too), as the rifles are too big and heavy for her.

So far, the best that I can do is to get the wife out on the deck while I'm shooting. She'd rather read a book. One day she'll surprise me and accept my invitation to take a few shots from the bench and we'll go from there.

Yeah, if the day comes when she wants her own air gun, that would be great. But I think we're just on step 1 of a 12-step program.

By the way, is the "I drank what?" quote a reference to Real Genius? Outside of mainstream movies, that's my favorite of all time.

Wow, I thought I was the only person who ever actually watched and bought the movie, Real Genius!! My wife just rolls her eyes when I dig it out to watch again about every 6 months or so. Reminds me of so many hijinks we used to try when in school.

My wife doesn't shoot often with me, but when she does she always surprises me with how well she hits the targets. She has started talking about the concealed carry permit lately. UHOH!

I caught Mrs. Quest with my rat killer laying in the living room floor. I said what are you doing, she said Shhhh. I saw a rat by the stove. To this day she still holds the record for the biggest rat down. 18 3/4 mine is 18 1/2 .... Never questioned her again about picking up my guns.....

Very good news! I've seen a small growth of wives starting to join in around our lake camp groups. Even saw a couple Christmas guns they got! Yes, it's an easy way to break dulldroms.
Beware... Once they get settled in, they'll try to embarrass you

Not sure how my ego would handle my wife outshooting me, if that were to happen. But it's a risk I'm willing to take!

my wive has no desire to shoot air, but give her a shotgun, 22 pistol, or any of my habdguns and she keeps me on my toes. she just dont like a pumper or spring gun. she dont dislike them she dont like how they work. and no on pcp . but it sounds like your gonna have to call P.A. again and order another gun, hey this might be the golden oppertunity to get 1 of those pricy hw's or beemans you look n drool over

Funny you say that.

I had a girlfriend about 20 yrs ago, didnt like guns. I had a .357 Dan Wesson stainless revolver, sweet gun.

took her out one day to IMPRESS her with the power and how well I could shoot the thing.

Yikes.

Showed her how to shoot it, and first group she shot matched my best one all day. From then on, whenever she shot with me, she could outshoot me.

Likewise, with airguns, my daughter can outshoot my 6yr old AND my 15 yr old son.

I love to see women shoot, alot of times if they arent handed a hard recoiling gun that turns them off immediately, they can shoot with the guys and be very competitive.

So earlier this year when I "told" ( read asked) swmbo that I was getting my b51 and accessories, she said " you don't get another airgun until I do" now I may not be the smartest man but I was inspired.....ran to Walmart and left with an 880 ......mistake #1 NEVER let her shoot your PCP....you won't get it back. Mistake#2 daughter #2 .....see mistake #1.....may be sending mike more money in the future......(I wonder if a tuned ab will work for the girls.....)
