Air Guns and Felons
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:10:06 PM »
I would imagine convicted felons can still possess pellet guns? It's not considered a firearm. Whats your take on this topic?

It depends. While air guns aren't considered firearms under federal law, some states do. For example, in Michigan an air gun with an overall length of less then 30 inches and rifled barrel is considered a firearm.

I am, unfortunately, a felon. And yes, I do own airguns. I know it's perfectly legal here in Ohio, and was in Texas as well.

It depends on the state. Federally, yes, a felon can own them. Also, some states are better than others in getting those rights restored/expunged. Depends on the crime and if you've been clean for a long time, etc. But I think you have to hire a lawyer to petititon the court or something.

Here in Canada,
If a crime was permitted where a firearm was used or Violent crime, then a firearms ban placed on that person, the only airgun that could be purchased, are the sub 500fps models.
All other airguns with velocities higher then 500 fps (even 501fps) require a P.A.L ( Firearms license), the felon would not have one of these, as it would have been revoked.

then you can own them in missouri as well . In mo unless laws changed  a felon can posses a air rifle or cap fired back powder  .
Always send a letter to the state Attorney generals office for what the laws are. Do not count on someone like myself on the net.

The funny thing is if you ever look at certain felonies you laugh and wonder why they are considered such.  Would kind of suck to get hit with one of those charges and then never be able to own a real gun!

But I guess it is easier for the law makers to envelope all then pull out certain ones to apply to gun ownership.

I knew Cecil Whiteside and saw his some 2000 airgun collection in person and shot alot with him....................he too was a felon from the 70's and one of those crazy laws that puts you in that same boat and could only own airguns!

He had a very impressive collection to say the least!

I know when i lived there, 1995 to 2003, my dad use to get our bb guns and slingshots from deleware when we were kids. we had a big backyard and use to have a blast back there. I actully think i remember a sticker on my wooden slingshot that said not for sale in a bunch of states (including NJ) and i use to think i was awesome cause i had one. lol

I'm still picking up marbles from around the property, at least a half dozen a year. Keeping them in a jar. Wife said I will soon have all my marbles back.

No kidding. Everything is a felony nowadays. Performing electrical work for hire without a state lecense is a felony where I live. Yeah, real dangerous people.

That's a myth. You must go before a Judge for it to count against you. Read the fine print. A 72-hour hold doesn't qualify.

it's not a firearm. shouldn't be considered as such in my opinion. ;D if a felon's possession of an airgun posses a threat to society, he shouldn't even be walking free. if they are free and walking around with the rest of us, they should be allowed to have an airgun. why not? ;D

i know some that cant own firearms but has pellet guns. i think they should take a real world approach at this one myself. some felons are far from a danger to society and should be allowed firearms even. just my .02.
"come over to the darkside you knob"

How do you word it... "Air Guns" or "AirGuns"?
