Pump Question

First PCP.  Picked up my B50 and pump from Mike on a detour through Burt, Ia enroute an ice fishing trip in MN a couple of weeks ago.  The pump comes with a plug to test the pump's integrity.  Should I use it to keep it pressurized at a minimal pressure, say 500 psi, to keep moisture out when it is not being used?  Will be getting a SCUBA tank for my primary filling source so the pump will be a backup.

if it were me i would keep a little pressure in it but not to much, but what do i know maybe someone more educated could give you better answer.

I also got a B50 (B51) and pump from Mike recently, and I made an air drier for mine following tenring's guide at http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=39174.0.  You might want to check it out.  I have lots of extra dessicant pellets left over, collected from work.  If you want some, for the cost of shipping I'll measure off enough for a ~1L bottle and send them to you.   Will throw in some tubing, a gasket, and plug that you'll need as well.  All I ask is that you genuinely intend to make one and post a picture when you're done.

By compressing air and storing it that way you would be introducing more moisture.

Makes sense Rescue 35 that storing it with pressure adds moisture.  Asked the question because SCUBA tanks are stored with pressure in them to keep moisture out but then they are filled with dry air.  And nervoustrigger, I just sent you a private message regarding your generous offer.  And thanks to the link to the external moisture filter.

Very nice!  Any problems getting it together? 

Looks like you used the same bottle so I'm curious what you used for the tube that goes from the spout down to the bottom of the bottle?  I ended up using some Pex tubing (I think it was) that was almost the right size but I had to add a few turns of electrical tape to make it seal. 

Also, if you have any comments or corrections or additions for the writeup that you think would benefit others, I would appreciate it.

By the way, I can barely stand the look of the garden hose stub on top but it fit the bottle spout and I had a rubber plug that fits.  I'm probably just being weird but I want to change it when I find something better.

Once your how to showed me where the three hole gasket and black plug went, the rest was easy.  Right now I have a 1/2 inch piece of PVC pipe down through the dessicate but think 3/4 inch will fit better.  Have some around somewhere and will try that tomorrow.  Will let you know how that works.  The water bottle was $1.76 at the local WalMart.  Do you have the McMaster-Carr spring for your B50?

Replaced 1/2 inch pipe with 3/4 inch.  A 5/16 inch rubber hose fits tightly into the bottle cap and then slips easily into the pvc pipe.

Thanks for the info on the downspout using tubing and PVC, I'll add that to the document.

I don't have the McMaster spring.  What does it do?  I haven't gotten into the internals of my B51 yet but when I do, it will be for higher energy.  At the peak of the curve, it's touching 30fpe with the JSB 25.4 grainers so it's really no slouch to begin with.

Jason,

The PVC pipe is easy to shove down through the dessicate for an easy conduit for the flexible tubing.  Will make it easier to tear down to dry the dissicate when necessary.

If you don't have the "Technical Details for Adjusting the Bam b50 51" you should get it, explains the benefits/downside of the McMaster-Carr spring replacement.  Its a two minute job to replace the spring and you can easily bounce back and forth from a hunting gun to a tamer target rifle.  Will send you one as well as a piece of vinyl tubing for a depinger.

I thought the spring ChrisK described was only for detuning for longer shot strings but if I can adjust back and forth, that sounds fantastic!

I am curious about the depinger too.  How much of an improvement did it make for your rifle?
