hi , i have herd that wadcutter pellets lose there accuracy just past 20 yards . if that is true then what pellet in general maintains there accuracy throughout 25 yards ? i understand some guns just can not be a tack driver but if you had a pellet gun shooting 800 fps to 975 fps that was then what pellet would be the best choice for hunting where the pellet maintains its accuracy to your desired point of impact past 25 yards .

Personally I use domed pellets.
All my 22 cal guns:
Crosman Premier UltraMags 14.3 gr
RWS SuperDomes 14.3 gr
JSB Exact 15.89 gr
JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.13 gr
Only in my PCP guns:
Beeman Kodiak 21.14 gr (pointed dome)
Depends on the gun used.

There are very few match grade options for .22, though there are some.
- look for weight listed in hundredths of a grain.
- look for a label on the back that lists exact diameter. (like 5.53mm)
What makes for accuracy is consistency and IME, H&N are pretty much it for .22. I like the Field Target Trophy and the Baracuda Match.
Note - Beeman sells the H&N pellets but they are not sorted for exact size and generally cost a dollar or so more per tin. (Baracuda Match are the Kodiak and the FTT are labelled as Field Target Special) I also like that the FTT come in 500 pellet tins. They are without a doubt great for longer-range accuracy.
Beeman: $9.25 for 200, unsorted. H&N: $14.50 for 500, sorted. It's kind of obvious which is the better deal.

Kodiaks (Barracudas) and FTS or maybe FTTs have some of the highest ballistic coefficients out there.
JSB's arent bad either.
Provided barrel diameter matches pellets well, you can usually count on Kods to shoot well at high speeds.
God bless,

I have had great results with JSB Diablo Exact in 15.9 and 18.13 grains in the springers I once owned. I just got into PCP and have only shot the crosman and Benjamin Premier domed hollowpoints and they are shooting .35" groups out to 25 yards. That is the farthest I have been able to shoot them. typically domed pellets will perform better at longer ranges. they typically have better ballistic coefficient as well. just find the one your gun likes and your good to go.

For distances past 25 yards, and particularly at 50 and beyond, a good round-nosed pellet will generally provide the best accuracy.... Most of my guns prefer one weight or more of the JSB Exact Series, a few like H&N FTTs or Baracudas, but some won't shoot them well at all.... The Crosman Premiers in the brown cardboard box can be a good pellet as well, and some guns like the Premier HollowPoints (which are really a round-nose with a small dent in the front)....
Get a variety of the above, and use the one that is the most accurate in YOUR particular gun....

The gun I will be using is the one I just bought from airgun depot it is a walther talon .22 springer for 149.99 . I was told the gun has a lot of power but I hope the accuracy will be there with the right pellet .

It's quite hard to answer one of those "which is best" questions without knowing most or all the facts, but there have been a few good pellets mentioned above and I can vouch especially for the JSB Jumbo Exact Heavy's at 18 gr, if you have a rifle capable of making good use of them. These are a great all-rounder and accurate as heck in many rifles...

Domed hold the best accuracy for me. I use hn ftt 14.66 gr, jsb 15.9 and jsb monster 25.4 gr pellets in my 22 cals. For hunting at 25 or less predators are good. They usually shoot in the top 3 out of most of my guns. The 14.66 and 15.9 are out of my springers and low powered pcp's. My condor get the 25 gr monsters.

i understand there are a lot of unknowns in the question but in general sometimes there is an agreement that certain pellets perform well reguardless of what the gun is . as for the shooter thats a different issue all together !

Yes, I know that feeling. I suppose sometimes me and others like me, could be called "the weakest chain in the link"... Sometimes I can hit everything (well, almost everything - ok ok - about 50%) that I aim at. Other times it's the old barn door syndrome...
Being a builder, I have learned to always blame the tools rather than myself - hahahahaha...!!

Another vote for domed. I have had a few pointed that shot well--Benjamin and H&N Spitskugels.
As for hollowpoints that actually typically expand on impact (Not including Premier as hollowpoints here, because as rsterne pointed out, they just have a little dent in the front and are basically a hard alloy domed pellet that has been accurate and penetrated well, but doesn't normally expand for me.), only RWS Super-H-Points have been reliably accurate at 50 yards for me, but they lose velocity faster than domed (or Prem's) and that can be a problem for hunting.

Would just like to add some pellet types like H@N FTT have different head sizes. If you are doing some experimenting with different pellets head size may vary in performance. JFYI

I do chrony my pellets while shooting indoors in my basement . I ordered a Walther talon .22 springer . FedEx says delivery is tomorrow and i can't wait to see how this gun will shoot . I have been told it is a powerfull air rifle ! Airgun depot sent me an e-mail saying they are selling refurbished Walther talons springers for 119.00 but only the .177 cal . And Gamo bone collector .22 for like 189.00 . I wonder if the Gamo bone collector .22 is more powerfull than the Walther talon .22 ? I think the cocking effort is more in the Gamo than the talon but because of that would it make the gamo gun more powerfull because it takes more cocking effort ?

They hold velocity fairly well, tend to expand, but are only accurate to about 25-30 yards in my experience. YMMV.
