I bought this AG to keep in my shed to plink squirrels so I don't have to walk back to the house.

Finally got around to doing some chrony tests and accuracy evaluation (pellets). I was impressed with its accuracy right out of the box for being an almost disposable AG (under $50).

The trigger is very heavy and there isn't any way to lighten the pull, as far as I can see. For what I'm going to use it for,,,I'll get used to the trigger.

I've only shot about 10 BB's thru it so far, wanted to see the accuracy it had with pellets before I decided which ammo I'll shoot.

Chrony results using Crosman wadcutters in the milk container (7.9 gr?):

1 pump: 196 fps (avg four shot groups)
2 pumps: 374
3 pumps: 438
4 pumps: 496
5 pumps: 545
6 pumps: 569
7 pumps: 602
8 pumps: 627

Chrony with BBs:

2 pumps: 433
8 pumps: 705

Daisy said that one can pump up to 10 pumps per shot,,,,I just don't see a need for 10. Eight is plenty for me. 627 fps is plenty for killing a squirrel. I killed one with my IZH 61 which shoots at 430 fps.

Accuracy: tried four different pellets (Crossman wadcutters in the milk carton; Crosman Premier dome; Gamo Match wadcutter; and JSB Exact Diablo 8.4gr). The best was JSB with Gamo Match in a close second. Shooting was bench rest, open sites, 18 yds (which is the most common range of my backyard shooting). The power shot was 4 pumps - around 485 fps. Sorry about the pic, broke my camera - no flash now, had to use a flash light for lighting.

I'm thinking I'm going to do a test of shooting BBs for a while, like one round cardboard package (400 BBs?) and then go back and shoot JSBs again to see if there is any compromise of rifling / accuracy using pellets - now that I have a landmark of initial accuracy. If I do that testing,,,I'll post my findings.

The pic of accuracy of 4 shots at 18 yds. I don't have it sited in yet, but the grouping is evident.

First off, welcome to the forum. Great shooting.
I was always curious about chrony numbers with various pumps.

love it... i actually got a 22sg and found a 177x. essentially both wood and metal instaed of plastic. and one is a .22. i pump them both to only 5 pumps. plenty of punch and very accurate.

Bought an old metal bodied gun (one of those almost Air Force blue numbers) and it is very accurate at ten meters. I like a peep on it. Don't shoot BB's in it, though. Just not comfortable with them and the rifling. I don't care what Daisy says. They are in the business of selling inexpensive air guns. Lots of them.

I have two 22SGs and are very accurate. One of them has a metal pump handle that I managed to scrounge somewhere and install it on the 22SG that is better made than the one I got from Wal-Mart. Believe me, the metal pump handle makes a big difference in how it pumps. With the plastic pump handle, it would flex and twist when you get to higher pump and would never sit right when folded against the receiver tube. No such problem with the metal pump handle.

I don't know if the metal pump handles from the older guns will fit all 880's and their variants but they can be had cheaply if you find a used gun. 880's don't go for a whole lot, especially if they are leakers. The older guns are getting harder to repair, too, since Daisy no longer supports them. Some guy bought all of the exisiting parts a while back but I've seen where he is now running low if not completely out of them. I can see where the plastic handle would be a problem, giving up some of your arm energy each time it flexes.

true, but both of the 22sg and the 177x have plastic arms. i dont think they are a problem as both do not get harder to pump as you do so. it seems like the first pump all the way till 8/9 pumps. unlike the crosman stuff which shows resistance at much lower pumps.

My first experience with a powerful air rifle was my younger brother's old Daisy 880, and I realized I just had to have something even more powerful in a pump gun.
I requested a Crosman 2100.
I used that gun for two years, eradicating scores of nasty old English sparrows and starlings, using nothing but the open sights and the el cheapo Daisy and Crosman wadcutter pellets available at K-Mart or the hardware store.
The Crosman was definitely a better rifle in all ways except for effort required to pump than was the Daisy.
That old Daisy was almost too easy to pump by comparison, but it was also not quite as solid, did not have the spring feed for BBs, had no sliding chamber cover, and was about 100fps slower.
No big deal, though, as both my bro and I wiped out so many sparrows in our grandparents' old detached garage with them that our cats got fat on them.

Wish I still had my old metal receiver 880, I miss that gun. I have no clue how many bb's and pellets that thing saw as a kid, but it was easily in the 10's of thousands. Shot it until the barrel came out of the receiver. I just acquired a fairly new one from my brother and it is still super accurate and fun even though it is nowhere near as well built as the old one was.

I think that i need to re-seal mine. i think its shooting kinda weak. my 10-11 yr old nephews use it and i think that they over-pump it. wonder how hard that would be to do, or if its even worth it lol you can get them so darn cheap. I need to verify it with a chrony first. i was just shooting mine today, they are really fun and accurate as heck at 20 yds and under. i was shooting a soda can at 25 today and couldn't miss, the cheap pumpers are a total blast.

I have dealt with them before, and they had fantastic customer service, and they were a pleasure to deal with, but never sent out the part that they said they were going to...lol i should probly chrony this thing first, but ill most likely order it anyway. thankyou.

Does anyone know how much the air powerplant has in common with the Daisy 990? I was not getting those velocities with the 990 on 7 pumps.
The plastic pumper handle does exactly what you describe- flexes, and hits the receiver sometimes when closing.

My first airgun was an 880! Still have it and it still works like a champ after 21 yrs. They are great guns. Mines put probably 4 million bb's down range and I can't tell you how cans and bottles have sank to the bottom of cache creek back in Oklahoma. We spent alot of time as kids wandering around shooting every thing we could as kids. They are indeed great guns.
