What's the best buget priced scope for a springer?
« on: August 14, 2010, 02:54:10 PM »
I'm still having trouble finding the "right" scope for my springers, something that will work well from 10 to 50 yards and is easy on the wallet. I don't have any magnum guns, just medium powered ones; what brands and models are the most popular?

Depends on what your budget is of course.... I just bought 2 Leapers 5th Gen 4-16x50AO Scopes with Illuminated Red/Green Mil-Dot Reticle, Zero Lock/Reset turrents from P.A. for $81 ea. They focus down to 10 meters nicely, which is what I shoot most of the time, but have the magnification for the long shot too. Mine are very clear on the 16 power, and hold the same POI.

And the Centerpoints @ Wally World are nice budget options too.

Natchezz has the BSA 3X12X44 AO TT for $45. Mine has held up for many years on different spring rifles. Not great lenses, but that's a pretty good price.

Something like the old Leapers BugBusters.  I guess the compact Centrepoints are the same thing these days.

The WalMart 4X16 is a good buy but does tend to be long and heavy, plus I have seen they don't hold up that well on magnum springers.  (When you go up in weight, the recoil becomes harsher on the scopes, so you need to go up in $$$ to get the extra build quality.)

Maybe not "bargin priced", but clearly not High priced...

I really like the Hawke 2-7 x 32 AO on my HW30S, clear, bright, plenty of eye relief, and tough.

Focus ring marked to 15 feet, but some travel beyond that.  At 10' still in focus.

The reticles and mil dots are not a large as some online sites show.
I use mine mostly at 10 meters, set to 2.5 magnification.
Even out to 30 yards that magnification works for my paper punching and plinking.
The 7 power is plenty for 50 yards, .... unless you need to read the Lords Prayer on a grain of rice...

The price is not 'bargin basement', but quality like this scope is never found in the basement.

If you are on a budget, I would consider the BSA 2-7 x 32 AO scope. . I've used mine on low and medium powered springers and haven't had one break.....yet. Glass is acceptable for its price range and both of mine have always held zero. I usually shoot in the 20 - 30 yd. range, although I've used it just fine in the 10yd range too.

I ordered Mine from Natchez Shooter's Supply. They are on sale now. Total cost with shipping was $51 and some change. It only took two days to receive.

Here is the link.

The best values in airgun rated scopes are at Natchez Shooter Supply (natchezss.com).  Get any of the 4 models of BSA airgun scopes.  They start at about $30 for a 4X and go up to about $65 for a 3-12X50.  They are adjustable objective scopes and the two I have are still going strong after 2 years of springer use. The glass is good for the money spent.

I realize that these two have already been mentioned, but I thought I would throw in my two cents.

If you want a mildot reticule, then the Leapers 6-24x50AO is a great deal.  The ones I have, have been tested with thousands of rounds in my Diana 350Ms, WFH, and some of my other springers...and they have never failed yet.

The BSA 3-12x44AO is another great deal.  I've tested them also on many of my springers, including the ones mentioned above.  I've never had a bad one.  They dont have the mildot reticule though.
Gamos all with GRTIII trigger... I have a Tasco Golden Antler on my desk right now.  It is going back for repair. ;)  Nothing to do with the scope breaking but the top turret seems like it is stripped.
