Finally, got a Crosman pumper back in my collection. Since, trading the ugly 140 away about a year ago. I started missing having one of these old school Crosman rifles. The 140 I had wasn't beautiful, had several hardware store screws, a bent barrel, and didn't like pellets. Actually, there was only 1 she liked the Crosman Destroyers. So I don't really know what was drawling me to having another 140/1400 rifle. Maybe I have an addiction? I do remember compared to the Dans and Benjis she was super quiet. So let's hope this Sears 1400 brings back the good times.
I got her for the price of shipping USPS first class. It arrived magically in 2 days from Alabama! The man packaged this rifle like it was a 3-4 hundred dollar functioning rifle. Had the original mount and weaver scope as you can see. Looks like she spent some time laying on the ground of a room that flooded a little. Well, gave her a couple pumps and air came right out the barrel/TP. So it leads me to the valve exhaust side. Gave her some SS but didn't help. Well, let's get her open!!

I ordered several quad seals from eBay. I know most the orings in this girl can be had from the hardware store like the 140. I have a spare Dan check valve that I'll cut and shape to fit if need be.

I've seen your work... it won't be long now. At one time I had 4 140s and 2 1400s. I'm down to 1 1400 now.

Wow that gun has seen some abuse. That will take some work and I hope you can save the scope.

Whew! That's a project! I wonder if you're gonna be able to have that scope restored? Or are you just going to find a replacement?

Thanks Bill, I try to do my part in bringing these oldies back to their former glory. It would have been nice to have been able to get a few shots off to see what she's got. The crown and rifling look awesome so I'm gonna hope she shoots as well as those things look.
When you get a gun like this you gotta try to find the little things that are good. The previous owner said, "he couldn't bring himself to trash it, but didn't want to put the time in it." So, here I am doing the dirty.
Someone has been inside of her to some extent. As you can see by the position of the port in the bolt. When the breech cover was rotated to the closed position the port was facing upward:

Yes, I'm going to try and save the scope. Looking thru it is quite fuzzy, but I've restored/cleaned up a couple back to serviceable order. I had to take picture upside down. The bottom is the scope and top is barrel you can see the mount is alightly bent/off center. Must have taken a fall. Hope it still works:

As someone mention, that wood has sone nice grain and looks like it matches up to the forearm really well. I bet just a finish of straight Tru-oil or Tung-oil would pop with a flat black on the metal.

I sure hate to see good hardware abused like that! I'd love to get my hands on one of those Sears 1400s with scope grooves. That scope looks like a Weaver B4? I have a B4 on one of my 114s, it's a tack-driver. Looking forward to seeing your progress with this gun.

Looking forward to seeing yours as well. These rifles have the potential to be great. I'm most glad about it having the groves for a scope. The Crosman mounts for these aren't bad, but will take you up a hair to get that perfect check weld right.

Yea, the figure in the stock is what pulled me in. My old 140 was as plain as can be. I'm wanting to get her running before I put the time into the stock. Though, I know I should just do it now while I'm waiting for those quad seals to come in.

Yup, it's a B4! Looking thru it wasn't pretty. Christ, looking at it isn't pretty, haha. I was able to clean it up a bit. I was fortunate enough to be able to get apart without getting out channel locks. Which was quite a surprise. Still a little rough on the outside, but want to make sure she still functions before putting anymore time into rust removal.

I have a bunch of 1400 parts I found in an old closet when I moved here. . but it isn't enough to put together into any thing. I had an old 140 as a kid and they were great little pumpers.

Always was a sucker for seemingly hopeless causes. I can't wait to see how this basket case turns out. My old wood 760 needs a pump seal at the least. But this looks more like the proverbial phoenix rising from...ashes my foot, that's a pile of rust powder, & sanding dust, &...
