Identify wood on my 397

Could anybody give me a clue as to the wood on my 1994 Nickel 397P....sometime after the gun was purchased I bent the pump assembly and sent gun off for repair..apparently rather than rebuild using my wood, they just put another assembly on wood and all....Im thinking seriously of refinishing gun...as the tu tone is buggin me...oh yeah the red dot is just on there for kicks...but accurate...thanks

Walnut... and very nice tiger stripe figuring in it.

I agree with Greg. Looks to be a great candidate for a strip and refinish. That wood should look fantastic once you get rid of the (in my opinion) not so fantistic factory finish.

Yup, as mentioned, still walnut for that vintage. Here's my 1992, but nowhere near as nice as piece of walnut as yours.

Is the forearm also walnut, the orginal stock doesn't have a scratch on it, the forearm is the problem...thanks for the replies

Yes, still walnut, but on Sheridan and Benjamin pumpers, very typical to get a mismatch as to grain and color between the main stock and the pump handle. Apparently, not a lot of effort was made to match them up at the factory. Don't worry about yours. Have seen worse. Notice the two Sheridans at the top.

Who did you send this gun off to when you got it repaired? If they didn't tell you what they going to do I would be telling them I want my old parts and wood back.

Joanie, those top 2 if you switched the forearm they would match better. Not perfect, but closer to looking alike.

You're right, guys, but that top one is never going to get altered in any way. Got it from the original owner, along with the sales receipt, dated 1972, manual and all. The older gent took great care of it and sold it only because he was no longer able to pump it. Promised him I would care for it the same. Hope to some day pass it on, too.

I would send back but (A) Gun was repaired in 1996 and (B) I don't remember who did the repair....its possible the forearm is original to the gun , but just don't remember...
