Title: 2240 convert to .177
Post by: dwk54rak on April 03, 2012, 12:36:30 PM
:-\ Any reason I can't take a 2240 and convert it to a 177.  Change to steel breech and choose a barrel length?

You are halfway there already, but don't forget the bolt size, I think the .177 is diffrerent?! And maybe someone will chime in on the best transfer port size so as not to waste co2 in .177 cal?

When you buy a 1377 steel breech from crosman it comes with a bolt. The transfer port is a good Question. If I got the same 40 shots from the 12 gram capsule I would not mind and it should make that little 177 move down the road.

MustangMike: Ya know, I was wondering about that as I put my 2240 together last week, I'm gonna be gettin a .177 bolt, o-ring and barrel real soon!

Darrell, whats your guess on the fps with .177 CP Lites? I'm thinkin 695-ish if barrel is 14" +? Also, it seems to me in PCPs and co2 guns, that .22 calibers are more "efficient" i.e. more shots per same fill? Not sure, just stuff I read here and there.

Mustang mike I didn't think of it but I'm sure you are correct the breeches are all the same from Crosman. The bolts are all that need to be different.
Saade: I would think we should be getting over 600 fps. Don't have a chrony. I;ll be shooting 7 grain or 8 to 8,5 grain
177s. I have about 4 thousand on hand. I was thinking 14" barrel, cuse I'm sure I read on the crosman web site that 14 was the fastest barrel.
Just looked on the crosman web site the breeches are all the same, but I need a breech any how cause I'll be forced to buy another 2240 to start the build

The longer the barrel the more the velocity, particularly if the gun is modded at all.... The gains are smaller once you go past about 18", but still noticeable.... The choice of barrel length for a carbine becomes more a matter of compact size than performance.... 14.5" minimum or you start to lose velocity big time....

If you are leaving the gun pretty stock, you certainly don't want to go hogging out the ports in a .177.... in fact I seldom do even in highly modded guns....

Bob, I was thinking just the opposite for the .177 conversion of the 2240, use a smaller port (I.D.) or tube for the .177?

Keep the breech and use a .177 probe and barrel.  The breeches are the same.
