Title: Tuning a Benjamin Trail NP
Post by: GTA-Airgunner on February 01, 2011, 06:34:30 PM
Hello all..

I'm working on learning how to tune my own guns and I've started with my Remington vantage and my Benjamin Trail NP.  So far I've been pretty happy with the results of a simple cleaning and rebuild with grease vs the oil the guns ship in. I'll attach a couple shot groups that I got from 10 yards in my shop from each.  The question that I have is where to get spare parts, i.e. main seal, spring, etc.

Remington Vantage:

Benjamin Trail NP:

My next project will be my Benjamin Super Streak.. It's not like it could get worse.. so I'll be looking for a seal and spring for that as well.

I'm new to taking these things apart so ANY help will be greatly appreciated.

One other quick note.. I really hate the 2nd stage of these crosman triggers... I found that if you polish the parts carefully and replace the adjustment screw with a 4-40 x 1/2 slotted screw (Lowes) you can adjust the length of the 2nd stage and the trigger is really MUCH BETTER.

*******BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT ADJUST TOO FAR AS YOU CAN CREATE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BY NOT HAVING ENOUGH CONTACT WITH THE SEAR*******

I'm going to work on finding the right length as to allow for useful adjustment while keeping things where you can't go so far as to disable the trigger.

Cheers.

Rick

Hey there Jeff..

Thanks for the email.  I looked there first and this was the response that I got back from them when I was looking for some basic help.:

Quote
"Dear Sir,

My tune kit page at the top explains that situation in detail.
Nothing is new here and the website is current. I do not deal in those guns or see them and quit doing so as it says. So I have no idea what works as I could not possibly know as I never seen the guns and no longer chase a new model every week. Sorry!
Good Luck!
Best Regards
ARH LLC"

I certainly don't mind doing my own research.. but rather than buy a bunch of stuff that I don't know will work, I was hoping that someone could tell me the part references that would work from his site for the guns that I'm looking to refurbish... mainly Crosman's Chinese imports.  Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

Rick

A good reference to have on hand, here's a link to manuals and parts diagrams at crosman.com
Crosman customer service is awesome, but they do make us use the telephone for ordering.  :-)

Here are the two most common seals that MIGHT be compatible with you shooter(s)...

Cool find there about the trigger. For my Crosman triggers I take them apart and cover them with moly paste. It helps reduce friction. Glad to see you here Rick... Looking forward to more posts..

Hey Rick,  Welcome to the madness!

I use a small amount of molly added to some oil in a needle point oiler for all my moving parts with the exception of the pivot bolt on my AG's. Lasts forever and never had it get gummy.

For the Vantage I'm pretty sure you can get a parts diagram on the Crosman website.  Crosman parts are cheap and they are good to deal with.

Good Luck,
Scotty

Try the H&N crow mags. I found they work well in my trail. 18.21 grains. My titan liked  RWS Super-H-Point .22 Cal, 14.2 Grains but I tried them in the trail and it did not digest them well. Switched to the CROWS and the gun groups great with them. All of these guns digest the ammo different. Also chrons out faster. I know speed is not always the best but in my case the switch of the pellets made a world of difference.

Rick is the 4-40 x 1/2 slotted screw the standard gun thread. I've been trying to find screws for my walther talon trigger.
