A few years back I bought a 4-12x40 Hawke AirMax from them and found that the scope shifted the poi 1 1/2" laterally simply by focusing and taking a few shots at 18 yards then doing the same thing at 10 yards. When I was told that the scope couldn't be returned even though it had less than a dozen shots and absolutely no scope marks I simply asked "how do I know the scope is defective unless I mount it and take a few shots?" The reply was "we're sorry but that is our policy"!Anywhoo......I got in touch with Hawke and returned it to Hawke under their great warranty and quickly received a replacement AirMax that also shifted the poi laterally when focusing! LOL
I've tried over the last couple years to purchase from them, usually on hard to find items. While the catalog showed "available", they were always out of stock with more expected soon condition, after you hit the PayPal button. All were refunded semi-promptly, but unless & until I hear they've upgraded their stock tracking software, I usually ignore them,

Oh, yeah, if you buggered it up during the mounting-dismounting it would be obvious but otherwise? It would be somewhat difficult to explain if you tried to return the scope and asked for an exact replacement but if you are simply returning it?I'm not arguing for folks to be dishonest but, given Optics Planet's policy, how else are you going to get satisfaction if the scope you bought turns out to be defective in some way that can only be determined by mounting and trying it? As in nced's case, you can often go back to the manufacturer but it seems to me that the seller has to take some responsibility.
