There is no other procedure, modification, or caliber that will do more for your score than learning the wind......especially at that distance.Mike
Here is my plan, I blame Douglas.Take my 30 cal rainstorm and use 1/3 of the main tube as a plenum, add a manifold that contains a regulator and two 500 cc bottles, one bottle on each side of the reservoir. Tie all this together with a nice machined bracket. This will give me plenty of air for either pellets @ 80 fpe or boolits @ 140 fpe Tom
I have been thinking allot lately about the extreme benchrest competition. Wondering how I could do compared to the top shooters. I think I'm a pretty good shot. So today was hot and humid with almost no air movement, good day to give it a try.I'm shooting a stock .25 SynRod that I have had for a little over 2 months tuned for 16 shots averaging 856 fps with 25.39 gr. JSB Kings with a UTG accushot 3-12X44 AO compact scope with the glass etched reticle. Yeah, I know, I should have a scope with higher magnification for benchrest shooting at long range. This rifle has been a very good shooter only very minor poi shifts in the past, and I regularly shoot at 50, 60, 75 and 100 yards. So I printed some of the sample targets from the Extreme Benchrest website to give it a try.Using a three mil-dot holdover at 12 power I was shooting a little high, slightly left, so I wanted to adjust the scope to hold right on with the third mil-dot. This is where the frustration started, 3 clicks down 1 click right, right on, for about 3 shot and I mean 3 shots one hole at 75 yards, Wow! then Bam next shot 2 inches left 1 inch low, What? next shot 1 1/2 inches left, next shot almost back to dead on but not quite, next few shots hold pretty close but not right on. So I decide to adjust the scope again, same thing right on for a few shots then major poi shift, then over the next few shots it walks back to close to where I want to be but not quite. After doing this for awhile I decide to quit messing with the scope. Its close but not hold right on close, and if I don't adjust the scope anymore it seems to hold the poi much better, no drastic shifts just minor 1/4 to 1/2 inch shifts, but now I am starting to get some breezes. So after all of this I shot 3 targets, 25 shots at each target, to compare to the Extreme Benchrest competition scores. Just couldn't see printing that many targets and only taking one shot at each one. However in the future maybe 5 targets 5 shots at each one would be better, might be able to get a fairly accurate score that way. Also I guess I should adjust my expectations, I am shooting a stock 500 dollar rifle with a 150 dollar scope, wanting to be competitive with people shooting professionally tuned 1500+ dollar rifles with 400+ dollar scopes. So maybe I didn't do so bad. They are hard to score but I think they would range from a low of about 210 to a high of about 223.Here are the targets:Jim - jhm757Anybody from the Central New York area, or anywhere for that matter, that would like to get together to give this a try send me a PM, maybe we could set something up to have our own little competition.
L to R winds will raise a pellet.....R to L will lower it. Mike

Read the Extreme FX Pellet Gun Demo charter; it is to showcase pellet gun performance to increase the sales of same. Have they put it to print that boolits are Forbidden this time?cheers,Douglas
