Long Barrels on a 13XX: Significantly More Accurate?

It seems when modding a 13xx, fitting a longer barrel is almost a give-in around here. I have no doubt that it looks better, but is it making the gun significantly more accurate, too? Longer barrel = more accurate, in general this makes sense as a rule, sure. But when most of these guns also have either a 1399 or some other type of shoulder stock (a huge aid in making the gun more accurate), is there any real benefit in going from the stock barrel length to say, 14"? And some are even longer, up to 24".
My 1322 with the 1399 stock is a real shooter. I'll put more money into the trigger and the power, but so far I don't have a reason to go with a longer barrel. Enlighten me?

Adding a longer barrel, technically, has little to do with downrange accuracy. Factors more important are; rifling quality, barrel crown, consistency of ammo, and the depth of which each pellet is seated in the rifling. Now adding a longer barrel
does
increased the power that the gun puts out significantly, giving the pellet more time to accelerate in the barrel and may shoot a bit better downrange due to the greater energy in the pellet which increases it's ability to buck wind and keep a straight course. Now if you are looking for accuracy, I would recommend getting a good crown job on your barrel, an extended bolt probe and steel breech. The extended bolt probe with seat the pellet completely past the transfer-port, preventing damage to the pellets skirt when fired. Additionally, try a variety of pellets in your gun, find out the ones it "likes" best. I have a heavily customized 13XX which is as accurate as any rifle I own, and manages to do this with a 10 inch barrel! Only when distances increase dramatically do the rifles hold patterns a bit better. Hope this helps,
Andrew

Thanks for the reply. More time to acclerate, hadn't heard that before - Sounds good. I'll look into the long-probe bolt and I've already got the steel breech. About how much longer is the bolt?

I got the extended probe from Tim at Mac 1. It is a good deal longer than the factory probe and smoothed/rounded to allow better air flow. I snapped a quick picture of a side-by-side comparison between the two.

Looks like there's just enough space in front of the bolt to put the pellet in the chamber. Raises another question - When I cock the gun and the bolt is all the way back, there's still 1/8" gap between the bolt handle and end of the window that it slides through. Is this normal or should the bolt handle be all the way to the rear when cocked?
Thanks for your help.

It is completely normal for there to be a little bit of space there.

If you are using open sights a longer barrel will give you a longer sight radius and more accuracy potential. It doesn't necessarily make the rifle more accurate, it gives you an opportunity to shoot it more accurately.

When i installed a 14 in barrel on my 1377 i got an increase of 30-50 fps depending on the pellet. Havent really tested it for accuracy yet. If your looking for a barrel and bolt mellon air has some nice ones. They will cut it to what ever length you want and the crown is amazing. The prices are also very nice. Croked barn also has nice bolts but i think i read he was retiring. Still worth looking at maybe hes still turning out parts.

As others have stated, there is no improvement in accuracy with a longer barrel.... although if you are using iron sights the longer sighting radius will certainly help in aiming accurately.... In all guns except springers or very low powered guns you will notice an increase in velocity with barrel length, however....
