The gun showed up two days ago. My initial reaction to it is that it's big and it's heavy. Compared to my Ruger .22 rifle. Then I thought, well I'm a pretty big and heavy guy so maybe this will work out. I inspected the stock and all the metal and could find no flaws or obvious problems. It's a heavy duty gun that's well constructed. Very nice.
I did the Goo-Gone barrel bore cleaning I read about here. Yup, started off kinda dirty, but I got it cleaned out. Mounted the scope and had the allen wrench break at the bend. Well &^^&, I thought. So I went to the garage and got another one. The scope seems useable especially for someone like me who has little to no experience with scopes and therefore low expectations.
Today, I took it to my garage after I had removed the cars. My garage has an overhead door on each end. I have some dense foam cubes about 12 inches each side. One is stuffed with ShamWows to stop the pellet. Stops the .177 pellets very well. I put a target on it and set it on top of a large plastic garbage can. Checking to see what was on the other side of the target cube, I saw that the pellet would fly across my back yard and strike an old wooden shed we have. Perfect! All the neighbors are safe.
The moment had arrived to break it open and load it. So I did. Looking through the scope the bulls eye seemed pretty big. I pulled the trigger. Man, this thing is powerful. I was amazed at the power it has. The pellet (pointed) went through the shamwows and into the shed wall. Hope the wife doesn't notice that.
I adjusted the scope and did it again. POI moved as it should have. But, now I'm getting kinda paranoid about the noise. People say these will quiet down. We'll see. Anyway I stopped at that point. I have no opinion about the recoil or the trigger or any of the other aesthetics of the weapon because I was so blown away by the power of the thing. These suckers are lethal. Tomorrow I'll take it to the range and do some serious shooting and sighting in if it seems to have settled down.
Conclusions so far: This is it, I have arrived. This gun and me are going to be great pals.

Love mine as well. Everything's relative. Compared to my Hatsan 125TH, the Venom is as quiet as a mouse! Again comparing the recoil of the Nitro powered rifle to the Turkish springer, my shoulder much prefers the Nitro. Like both a lot, and the two have in common you get alot of gun for a very fair price.

Fred,
Have had mine for a couple weeks now and have put 800+ through it. The rifle DOES quiet down considerably.
Still trying to come up with a good pellet. I tatter holes at 21 ft in my shed, out to 25m though is a different story (I think it's shooter related, haha). Gamo Redfires and Rockets seem to group pretty well. They are both under 10gr. Next week I'm going to order a number of 10+ pellets from PA to try.
Let us know what you try for pellets.

Sorry, I got side tracked with other much less important thing. Now, back to the NV .22.
Some of the 'aesthetics' I overlooked the first time I fired the gun. First of all, it's size. The length, weight and overall feel of the gun are things I will be getting used to. It's longer than I would like by about 6 inches. And, it's heavier than I would like. But all that aside, the gun feels good when shooting it. Seems like the power it generates kind of justifies the length and weight. I'm sure the more I use it, the more I will get used to the size.
As everyone on the forum knows, the trigger pull is not right and too long. Before I get all excited about changing out the trigger, I'm going to work with it myself to see what bad stuff can be adjusted out.
On the positive side, the gun fits me well (I'm a big guy). The cocking is smooth and decisive feeling. There is no doubt form it's feel that you are storing a significant amount of power when you cock it.
At the range two days ago I had to use some crappy pointed Daisy pellets. I know Daisy does lots of things right, but I don't thing these pellets were one of their best ideas. Many of the pellet skirts looked oval to me, but they went into the gun and fired OK. Their accuracy is questionable. Anyway, I was not real concerned about tight groups at first. I just wanted to get it started toward being broken in.
After a while of not very careful shooting I decided to get serious. I need to mention I was shooting in the indoor pistol range. The distance was 50 ft. Looking at the distance, it seemed about right for what I'd likely be shooting at in the woods. I don't know about that for sure, it's been so long since I hunted anything. But I do believe at my age I will be within 50 feet of something before I notice it. Besides, there was a big rifle thing going on at the outdoor range and there just wasn't room for little ole' me.
I don't have much experience with scopes. But this one seems decent enough. I get a good view of the target and it came into focus easily. I liked all the magnification. It almost felt like cheating until I noticed how easily the cross hairs moved off the target due to breathing, sneezing, and various itching and scratching. But if one can hold still, good groups are very possible with the stock scope. Also, the adjustments on windage and elevation are positive and work well. I shot lots of targets. This was my best one.
The farthest out shot was just before the final scope adjustment for the day. There's a quarter there for size comparison. There's a total of six shots shown. And yes, the bull's eye is a little large. I did the target in PowerPoint so I could print them off whenever. And yes, I'm cheap.
One thing I would like to change on the gun quickly is the stock. I am finding that I prefer the thumbhole / pistol grip style over the traditional. So if anyone would like to trade stocks with me, let's talk.
In conclusion, This gun is powerful and delivers it projectile with force and authority. Cocking is not easy but it is smooth. The scope is very serviceable and should work well for all but the most serious shooters. The rifle looks great and makes a good impression on other shooters. It does all I was hoping it would do. Even though there are some things I'd like to change, none of it is 'urgent'. I am very satisfied with this gun.

I looked into changing out a stock a few years ago and at the time Crosman's prices seemed pretty reasonable.
