Has anyone tried the "Simmons 8-Point Truplex Reticle Riflescope, 3-9x40mm (Matte)" scope? The reviews look really good and the scope is very affordable.
Hey Novi, MI,I think the UTG mount you ordered will work, but the the UTG Accushot Offset, 1 piece mount is best. Because of the needed scope stop, the scope does not travel back far enough for perfect viewing. Also, I not sure, but the mount's medium height maybe too low for any scope above a 30mm objective lens.PS: Also, get rid of the Optima scope and buy atleast a UTG or Hawke 3x9x40 ($75-$100).Kirk..............formally from Garden City, MI

I am considering buying a new scope but I'm just having trouble justifying paying for a scope half the price of the gun itself. I know... you get what you pay for!

I think we all mess up buying the gun first!Maybe we should buy a scope first and then find a gun that can shoot accurately as far as the scope can see.Wish someone would of told me that. Think the pain wouldn't be so bad. Patience, Grasshopper, patience.

You use the scope stop normally (w/2 screws), because the mount gives extra room on the backend. I've had two (older) scope stops using only (1) screw sheered off from recoil .Good Luck ...........Kirkhttp://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n227/kirk_schwarz/Hatsan95177cal2_zpsc861906f.jpg You just had to force me to look at that beautiful stock again! I so want to do that to mine! It's right down my alley with my woodworking experience.I hear what you're saying about the recoil shearing the screws. It's all or nothing with this. The key is to get the job done well enough the first time. If what we do is insufficient in its function, it will not work. If ever there is any slip at all it will eventually fail. That's why I went all out to make sure of torques, thread-lock and tolerances. Only time will tell for certain. ps...I feel better everyday about my sling mod (love it). But who knows, the day may come.

Hey LostCoast,I used Lin-speed when refinishing stocks back in about 1973 and haven't used it since, but thought it was great.Where can you buy it?

Last year he wasn't sure he was going to continue making it but it looks like conditions have improved for him. I have had fantastic results with Lin-Speed - the key is to follow the instructions carefully (i.e., fill in the wood pores, apply very thin coats).. Here is a rifle stock I refinished with Lin-Speed last year: [/URL]Kevin

Several people advised me to replace the scope. Is it because of picture clarity or is because the scope doesn't handle the recoil well? I'm having trouble with the rifle not holding zero. It doesn't look like the rings are sliding down anymore (I haven't installed the new rings yet). I'm wondering if it's the scope. I was hoping to be able to use the Optima scope for a little while but with the way it keeps loosing zero, I don't think I will be able to.Thanks for the help everyone.

I moved my Optima to my wife's Benjamin Titan but I used the UTG 1-piece mount to secure it.She hasn't shot it near as much as I have my Hatsan/Hawke but it hasn't budged so far.She just loves to hit anything that I miss! My nice new Hawke Varmint was great until last evening when the side focus A/O quit working. So,....much nicer scopes can have problems as well. I would make double certain the mount is solid if I needed time to shop for something else. I don't think holding zero was the specific reason most people cited it as poor but I'm not sure. Ours is working well for now. Also, if you have to adjust near to one extreme for focus it could be changing on you. If so, try reversing your rings to get as close the center of your focus range as possible. You can learn about this problem in other threads.
