Trail NP XL1500 the right choice?

Ok I have been looking for a replacement for my beloved 15+yr old Silverstreak .177 She was stolen from me along with the rest of my guns while moving. All that is remains is my old beat up benji pistol. It is no longer able to shooting anything. (plan to try to refurbish it but it never had much ability to dispatch pests.)
I know I have decided on a Nitro piston, since I did not like the buzzing gun feel of a traditional springer. I was not taken by pcp since I would need at times fast access to the gun. Pumpers I was not impressed by what is available. The old silverstreak was not the best for taking out squirrels without suffrage.
Im looking for
low noise (my silverstreak was very quiet to me) most important.
nitro piston (I do not like the feel of a spring)
.177 mostly cause I have a tonne of ammo, but if it makes a HUGE difference to go .22. . . .
ability to take out rodents and pest birds (rats, squirrels, morning doves, pigeons, and crows.)
Long life, I hope to not have to replace it any time soon.
Uses:
Plinking in the yard/garage
pest control
long range target
messing about during shooting GTG
Long and short I am whinging on the purchase worried Ill get a dud or that this is too much gun. 1500fps even a bloated figure seems overkill but I love the weaver mount, scope, and the strap mounts. I have looked at the Gamo whisper (least 3 versions of it) and did not like the finish on them (plastic down the barrel, wobbly triggers, etc) Sadly I have not been able to look at much else other than online. Most stores locally have a small selection of the $150 and under range. (read daisy pumpers) That and no way to test how loud they are. I have read this forum up and down and it has just made me more indecisive. Nothing online that I have found gives a real definite answer related to the report of the guns. (noise from target is of little concern, just the distance report of the gun itself) I have heard a Benji of some version of the NP trail dryfired while in big5, it had the same barrel but the stock was some plasticized fake wood thing with hairs in. Very ugly. It had some cheap fixed scope on a dovetail. It was quite a pop but that was in a store fired at a display cabinet with no round.
Oh wall of text, anyhow, My question is is this a gun to go for or should I be looking elsewhere? It is at my absolute limit in price.(300$)
plans are to pick it up from Pyramyd Air, if it is in stock. :p

Look at the Reg benji trail. I love mine, and it has so many kills I can't remember my first! I've even killed a crow and dove at 50 yards with mine, checked with a laser rangefinder! 1" or a tad bigger are normal which is extremely awesome to me! What I point it at is going to go down out to 75 yards!

Trail NP in .22 (not XL) if you want it quiet. The NP is more smooth to shoot vs the XL.

Looking at sticking to .177 unless there is some strong reason I should bin about 150$ of tins of .177 for a .22. Is the report that much louder? I plan to shoot off mostly heavy rounds, I have none of that alloy plastic stuff. The old silverstreak hated those light rounds. Compatibility with friends guns is another reason I looked at .177 but if a .22 is worth buying new tins then I might just press the button on that laminated stock NP or the all weather model.
[edit] booger sold out on most of them.
Ok just looked at prices online for tins hahah um, .22 is tempting me atm. Hrmm laminated stock, or regular stock all are out of stock. I am open to other makes as well. As said sound is the most important factor to me atm.
I forgot to mention likely this will see more cans and paper than breathing animals.
Probably should add that plans are to relocate from fairly rural Sacramento to Berkeley, hopefully I can avoid SF itself due to lame AG laws from the 18th cen.

I am also trying to decide what my next ag will be. I am looking at the RWS 34 (aiguns depot) and the trail NP xl1500. I am looking to accuracy to 50 yds. I would like 1/2 inch groupings at 50 yds.

Talking the same gun, I think 22 are quieter than 177. More of a "Thunk" than the sharper "Thwack" of the 177's.

Yeah I was looking at RWS until I heard one. Made me think of a HMR117. It was a springer though, not sure of the model.
Thunk as in the gun or the round hitting it's target? Im leaning towards the .22 now high 800s on heavy lead sounds acceptable. I just worry if it will affect 50m and out. I really should get the distances I target at metered. Anyhow I figure for now I can try the .22 and if I need or want the flatter .177 for targeting I could invest in one specifically for that purpose. Since targeting is out in the woods on a rage sound wont be a issue.
Just looking for the best deal atm of who has them in stock. Seems they sell out fast. I think the wood stock is the one I want over the all weather (looks cheap) and the laminated one is I think not even out yet though everyone has it listed GRRRRRR.
Thanks fo rthe fast replies, and keep the opinions coming in. I will soak em all up!

My Benj. Trail NPXL1100 is extremely quiet. Great hunting gun. I highly recommend it, if you have the patience for the long break in period (for you as much as the gun).

AG's are 50 yd tools in general. Imo. I have 2 or 3 bunnies and 2 tree rats at the 50 mark with my Trail NP. I took those shots because everything was right. But I would have not pushed it any further. Targets are one thing, game is another.

Were those hurt bunnies or no more bunnies? I need to be able to shoot from inside my garage to minimize the noise, but be able to humanely take a gopher or racoon at 50 yards. Also target shoot at this distance.

yup game I probably wouldn't go for much past 30yds. Most if the pest control would be close in. But the gun would be used for other things than pests of course. Right now I do not want AG to become like my RC hobby. Just need something to fill the target practice urges and the needs to dispose of pest animals. If I need more I could branch out from there.
Range I used to use Id say we shot at about 60~70meters further with scopes. The silverstreak could manage decent target shooting at about 40~50meters (across a 2acre lot) But Id shoot at things with it that we would target with HMR177s and .22 rimfires.

Hope you find the one. I am continuing to debate over this hobby because of ordinances going into effect in cities that make it a law that you cannot discharge a airgun.

Yeah, I am likely going to go with the .22 trail NP. Just gotta wait for it to be stocked at Pyramyd, or order from someone else such as airgun depot. Pyr is giving a free 500ct tin of pellets, but is sold out atm. Other places I know of are sold out. Also considering places that carry the mounts for scopes for my hb17. Looking around though and it looks like it is not as popular as the 13** from crossman.
I will avoid going into the politics and my opinions of education over blind bans and peta psycos since I am not sure on the rules related to this sort of thing. But lets suffice it to say lawmakers are often the most ignorant people out there to make decisions on peoples rights, often deciding on misinformation and idiocy derived from hype and hyperbole.

Madkoifish, Once broken in a Trail NP in .22 is an absolute "Slayer" at the 30-40 mark. I wouldn't go past 30 on coons though. (18.1 gr JSB's). Bunnies are easy out to 50 with a good shot. (brain, lungs, shoulder etc..). Paper & targets? Shoot as far as you want. Here's mine in a Rem Summit stock.
P.S. Order up some 18.1 JSB Jumbo Heavy. The Trail NP Will love them.

Thankfully coons and bunnies are not as much as a issue here as they were in Seattle. Right now it is just introduced squirrels, huge rats, possibly small strange looking possums, Doves, crows and pigeons.
haha yeah, it might be a workout. Doubt as much as the Silverstreak major lopsided arms from that thing pump pump pump. I was not keen on how springers blurred my vision while firing but the feel of that one NP I tried out at big5 was more kick like a 22 and I am quite used to that. (figured it was dryfired by others, the salesman did not care so I had a go too) Loose grip and eye away from the scope is the plan. The break in is a doosey but to be expected. Hopefully the plain np wont be as abusive to the scope as the XL.

Don't worry about the scope on the NP unless things go south real fast. The NP has probably the smoothest shot cycle of any springer(gas ram) that I have shot. Very quick but smooth. Mine came with the CP 3-9X and it worked great. I upgraded to the CP 4-16X with no probs. NP's don't seem to "eat" scopes like the XL's do. In fact, the CP 3-9X is going on my MM tuned & mod B-25. I'm just waiting for the brown santa to show up!

Well I found it here
http://www.manventureoutpost.com/products/Benjamin-Sheridan-BT9M22WNP-Benjamin-Trail-NP.22-Wood-Stock.html
And over at
http://www.bigsupplyshop.com
for almost the exact price after savings discounts etc.
Never heard of these guys, any opinions? They only have the gamo rockets so I will have to fetch up the JSBs at pyramyd since I cannot find them elsewhere. They some 4 tins one free thing so Im looking about at what else to get. I know I want some wadcutters, make a good mess of the hard bodied morning doves and are a bit more fun on cans. That and they have the clamps for 11mm dovetails on my old hb17.

Yeah I checked some of these ratings sites, the other shop has a few and the nicks of the reviewers were really suspect. it is how a lot of bootleggers on ebay fake their ratings by filling feedback with fake results. Some are really bad too. (the ebay things exp Beijing and HongKong sellers
)
Anyhow they seem to be a good place, lots of good forum posts so far on random gun sites. I think I will go for it and use pyramyd for my lead.
Ok yeah Im now a owner of a np .22 >_> $100 less than planned too!
ew glow tag is nasty.
Any other suggestions on ammo? Until recently i just got whatever at wallyworld or kamart, mostly wadcutters or pointed pest from copperhead. Never knew about these hollowpoints alloy things and poly tipped thingamajigs. Friend had some of these gamo rockets and really liked them in my silverstreak. (weight)
From what I have read it sounds like 15+grains are good and to avoid lightweight stuff.

I ordered the Sightron 3-12 AO scope that's now on my Trail XL1100 from ManVenture, no problems, fast reply to e-mail and fast delivery. At first I was a bit uncomfortable about their website not showing a price, but they responding within the same day with a VERY good price. Checked out other on-line dealers and ManVenture had the lowest price on that scope by about $60.00.
For longer range hunting of thicker skinned animals, an XL1100 is hard to beat, but at about 47lbs cocking force, I wouldn't consider it a "backyard plinker". If your wanting to hunt larger 'small game', go with a 22. One of the givens of ballistics, at longer ranges heavier pellets retain more energy.
My XL is much quieter than my Gamo Whisper.
A number of guys with the Trail NP are having very good groups with the H&N Field Target Trophy pellets.
My XL loves the H&N Field Target which are a couple of grains heavier than the Trophys, so the Trophys should be a good starting place for an AG in the power range of a Trail NP.
Also, JSB Jumbo's, JSB Jumbo Express, and JSB Jumbo RS are all well made, acurate pellets. My 22 Gas Whisper does very well with all three.
