Refinishing the stock on my Disco

Hey guys,
I am wondering what kind of stain in on the Disco stock?
Recently i did a 3 screw trigger mod on my friends new Disco and ended up having to file away wood on the inside of the stock because they never finished inletting the stock and the wood was squeezing the trigger mechanism resulting in a 14 lbs trigger pull... NO KIDDING!!!
This was very disappointing but what else is to be expected? They don't make stuff like they used to.
SO while i was sanding the inside of the stock i realized that with very little sanding I could get thru the stain and expose a lighter wood. I have lots of experienc working wood. My dad is a carpenter, cabinet maker, etc... and I've been working with him as long as I have been walking. I'm wondering is this was just one spot or if thats how the whole finish is. If so i think I'm going to sand all the stain off and put a slick finish on her. Possibly some checkering.
Let my know what you think.
