First, let me sympathize with you guys fighting these magnum breakbarrels...they're double tough to shoot consistently well.Don't know if you guys know this or not, so excuse me if you do. Breakbarrels like light shoulder pressure, and your hand under the fore end, just resting on it. This allows maximum oscillation, over just setting it on a rest. No finger pressure, just a rest. While it doesn't seem like much, it makes a big difference. Let her breathe.Canting while you're pulling the trigger should also be a checkpoint. You do not see it happening most times it happens that last couple mm , as the sear is releasing. Put your thumb on top, to help alleviate this possible problem. I know you can't in a NP XL., but you get the idea to isolate it as much as you can.Check out Tom Gaylords Video on the "Artillery Hold", at the P.A. website video section.Good Luck to Y'all!!!! Mike
Sadly HOLD is not the guns problem ... at our informal TARGET springer shoot this past weekend we had 4 guys shooting at 25 yards. We each shot 5 shots at a target then moved over to the next rifle having everyone shoot each rifle Rotated 4 times as well. ( Present were all .177 cal, FWB124 - 2 RWS 34's - Benji regal NP )NOBODY could get the Benji NP to stack pellets !!!Going to call Crosman today and see if they will replace barrel for us ??My son who KNOWS how to shoot won the match with my 124 placing 5 shots in under .265" ctc !!
Sadly NOT a hold issue. Quote below a copy / paste from a comment I made within another thread.QuoteSadly HOLD is not the guns problem ... at our informal TARGET springer shoot this past weekend we had 4 guys shooting at 25 yards. We each shot 5 shots at a target then moved over to the next rifle having everyone shoot each rifle Rotated 4 times as well. This Benji NP rifle is just not a very accurate gun !!** Did contact Crosman/Benjamin customer service and they ARE sending us a replacement barrel ... we shall see
There are instances where the gun can be at fault....1, did you check the live jam..... notorious for this.2, did you check the breach bolt bushings...again notorious for this.3, how is the ram, in the gun....many posts of rams going south....MANY.4,Have you installed a GRT111 trigger from DA tuna.Different trigger pressures, will cause groups to do loopsThis not including, everything being, snug with loc-tite.This is not including hold of gun or shoulder position. Lifting the gun, cocking it, then putting it back down on the marked stock does not mean ...Tack driver. If your stance is to the left or right, fighting for the group will cause a shift in POI.Many things can be the problem, first over look the rifle, check everything out.Switch the scope up if need be......Then check yourself. You will not believe, how much you can effect the gun.move your big toe wrong, it will show on paper. Goodluck.
Not wanting this thread to take a turn for the worse by getting personal on Ones aptitude for knowing how to shoot correctly, set up gun etc ...This Benji NP is about as tricked out as we can make it. Yes has Charlies trigger, barrel bushings & NP guide installed. Trigger unit stoned and honed breaking at @ 1 1/4# there about. Macarri piston cup & lubes used. Lapped barrel and recrowned.* Shot off bags held loose or stuffed into shoulder hard makes NO DIFFERENCE ... some times a Tighter group emerges only to be followed by shotgunning patterns. Have even removed the Shroud, tried setting barrel closed HARD or SOFT, Seating pellets soft or firm ..... It Does NOTHING to settle down the shots. Pellets from 7 grains to 13.43 grains certainly make firing action go from wild to mild with no appreciative accuracy differences.Barrel pivot pin to pivot block checked for clearance being very tight, Lock plunger tight and kept lube with moly paste.Outside of a DUD BARREL this guns just shy of being given up on !!
Scott. You weren't the only one posting of problems with this gun. The posts by everyone here weren't solely directed towards you. My last post towards you was my question / thought on the NP XL project, based on many users problems, as well as those owners of similar newer class "super mags"...no matter the mfr. And was made in consideration of the items you have tried to correct, as you thought fit. The only other thing I could think of was a de-tune, (to try), to see if it made an improvement,,,thus narrowing the search. There are many other owners who post and read these threads that may have gleaned some good info here, that you think useless or pointed. It's not.Good Luck with your project. Mike
