XS-B26 with low Velocity
«

My XS-B60 produced 800+ fps when new. A broken main spring brought that to an end. Three rebuilds later (one by Mike) and it won't get over about 400 fps. I'm wondering if pouring a bunch of lead through it might help.
Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

What spring and seal are you using?

Whatever Mike supplies. Maybe three different springs.

What did Mike say?
A spring, and two seals should show a problem to cut FPS in half. I don't believe Mike did a tune and left it with a negative. 400 FPS.

I'll ask him. Seventy rounds yesterday brought the fps up to 600. Perhaps its just extreme break-in.

Maybe the new seal is (too) tight,
you need to shoot her more to see how she goes
Also check if the barrel oring is in place

try running her through the chrony without the scope and mounts... maybe you are tighten it too much putting pressure on the piston...

I was shooting with open sights. I put a scope on it today and discovered some extreme barrel droop, probably caused by swollen or uneven seals. That could possibly account for the low velocities. I'll try reseating the seals and see what happens.

The only seal that could affect droop would be the breech seal it it would have to awfully high to make any difference. If it is too high you can see it visually. If it leaks the TP test would tell. Droop itself would not affect FPS. A badly leaking seal would.
Did you talk to Mike yet?
If it acted like it is after Mike tuned it, I don't see hoe it could be a swollen seal or seal that is too high.

The TP test did not show a leak. Mike suggested heating the breech sea the closing the breech. That helped and brought the fps back up to normal (639fps w/14.3gr), but I put a straight edge on the breech and there's still about a three degrees of barrel droop. I'll keep on heating the breech seal to see if it improves.

take the seal out of the breech face... see if the groove has some debris inside that does not allow the seal to sit straight (ie. higher on one side, if drooping, generally the top side). scarpe it clean and then replace the oring/seal. check velocity and call me in the morning...lol

Cleaning the groove is probably a good idea. Unfortunately, the seal is not budging. Next time it has to be changed I'll make sure that's done. In the meantime, eight layers of electrical tape raised the rear of the scope enough to get centered. I don't think I could have done it without the help of you four, thanks.

Glad things are working for you. I don't shim the scope anymore. One quick tweak of the barrel and the droop is gone. You'd be surprised how little it takes.
I thought you said it was shooting 800+ in the beginning post.

800+ was a typo 600+ is normal. I found a scratch on the breech seal today, so it will have to be replaced. Perhaps it will seat properly after that.

just to give you a guideline i have had 3 b26 in .22 and they were all in the 645 to 660 fps range with a 14.3 gr pellet. i still blame the breech seal for the excessive droop and that would explain the low velocity, as a breech seal that is high on to will allow air to escape through the bottom and will point your barrel downwards. dont give up! they are great rifles.
