What weight pellet are you hoping to launch at 850 fps?.... With a 14.3 gr. that is 23 FPE, times 50 shots is a total of 1150 FPE.... seems a lot to expect from a regulated AT-44 Short, IMO.... I never saw much over 1000 FPE total with an unregulated one in all the tuning I did.... Your expectations may be difficult to reach....Bob
Hey zandrew, try them:www.air-superiorityproducts.com/Joe
I presume you are using two lights for the Chrony, one over each diffuser.... otherwise you may be inducing an error (the velocity will likely read higher than it actually is).... I would not recommend filling ANY PCP past the manufacturer's recommended pressure.... It may work for a while, but you are more likely to fatigue the metal and it could lead to an eventual failure.... Manufacturers state a MSWP for a reason....Bob
When I contact the regulator manufactures all of them say they are not to extend shot count but to get more consistent fps spread.
I would like to obtain 850fps
I have shot 215 out of 250 at 25 yards and I feel like I could shoot better IF my fps did not spread so bad. I need atleast 35 consistent shots for this.
QuoteWhen I contact the regulator manufactures all of them say they are not to extend shot count but to get more consistent fps spread. You sound like you dont want to believe the manufacturers of the product. The main goal of a regulator is just that it regulates the air pressure out put of the source. The purpose is not to extend the shot count but to make it more consistent. Sure it is possible to gain a few shots when you reg a rifle but it depends on how it was tuned before the reg and how you want it tuned after. But Bob and Baxter have experience with the AT44 and regulating it and they already know what you want is not possible. I know my AT44 short in .22 gave me about 25 real good shots maybe 30 but I also had it tuned to shoot JSB 18 gr. at 860 fps for an average with a very flat almost non existent curve. It shot such a flat curve it resembled a regulated rifle until it got to the end of the string then it fell like a 500 pound boulder off a cliff. I also did all the valve work that Bob did in his post about improving the At44.Quote I would like to obtain 850fpsQuoteI have shot 215 out of 250 at 25 yards and I feel like I could shoot better IF my fps did not spread so bad. I need atleast 35 consistent shots for this.If you are wanting to shoot around 850 fps why do you have it tuned to get over 1,000 fps for the high side of the string? If you tuned it for 850 fps you might be surprised at how good the string is and how good it shoots. I doubt the rifle is shooting at its best going over 1,000 fps and having over a 100 fps ES. A simple tune will improve the accuracy and you wont get the 50 shots but at least it will be shooting better. If you de tune it from the last string you posted to give you a very stable string with 820 fps for an average and did a few valve mods that Bob AKA rsterne has posted for a more efficient valve you should be able to get the 35 shots with an acceptable ES especially if you are only shooting at 25 yds.
They make BOTTLE guns for this reason .... Shot count !!Every thing ( nearly ) you read about regulators being the cats meow is true. But being most regulators in .22 application get set @ 1800-1900# set pressure it only leaves @ 1100-1200 pounds of pressure to work with. While shots taken are sipping away on this it does in many cases equal fewer shots overall.Only in select cases where a Rifle get regulated and ALSO get major hammer weight & valve changes to increase efficiency will you get shot strings of equal power & count to a Non regulated gun.As a tuner of regulated PCP's ... know this well and fully understand the No Free Lunch limitations.Wishing you all the best.Scott
