Winchester M14 CO2 Rifle repair/maintenance

Many owners of the Winchester M14 CO2 Rifle have reported customization and repairs they have done, however none have given details. Given that there is over 100 parts to this rifle, one must obviously proceed with caution.
Question: How do you remove the stock? I have removed the three stock screws, the front stock cap/barrel band, the barrel shroud, and the front hand guard. However, the stock simply does not come off. It appears there may be some plastic locking tabs at the rear, but nothing seems to release. Any help will be appreciated.

They might sound like a lot of work till you realize you only need 3-4 pumps for plinking.

Not sure, nice I like mine for what it is and the only mod I've done was paint the hand guard a more correct dark brown.
What exactly are you planning on doing to it ?

Initially I want to paint the stock a better color...my hand guard is actually dark brown, though darker than my M1 and M14 were in RVN.
I also want to tune (hate that use of the word for airguns because don't really feel it fits) the rifle. Most of the parts are plastic, which makes them somewhat self lubricating. However, I have found on other airguns with plastic action parts that a high quality lube really does improve things. Also, I want to lube the seals and O-rings that can not be done with the usual drop of Pelgun oil on CO2 cartridges. The hollow, sealing piercing pin prevents that drop of oil from reaching the interior of the rifle.
The triggers are already better than those on my Marine Corps issued M1 and m14's, except for those where the company armorer did some trigger work for me.
The stock must come of to do any of this work, and mine stubbornly will not come off. Reading reviews, many have removed them for painting or repairs like a jammed pellet. I am hoping one of those people will respond with the method.
Also, if anyone has experience opening the action and could comment with any cautions about flying springs/small parts etc. will be greatly appreciated!
