I just bought a Crosman Optimus with scope. I will only use it for target practice. What distance can I effectively use on average for shooting. It's a .177 cal.

For target practice I'd say up to fifty yards. More might be fun too but the holdover is going to get extreme quick. Ten yards is ok, but 20 is probably more fun (I only have ten at home :-(). Start out at ten and work back to whatever you can get to. Start with large targets and as you get better go to smaller ones. Remember to keep it fun. If it gets frustrating take a break.
I had a bunch of fun last weekend shooting my 22LR with subsonic loads at a range from 50 to 200 yards with a guy on a scope saying stuff like "four inches high". It was a blast. I think I had to holdover three feet at 200 yards. Mill dots would have helped. Most everyone else was shooting M-16s and here I am with my little 22 tube feed Remington. It was a little hard to hear the gong although you could see dirt kick up.

Yes, Thanks for the info. I have targets setup at 10 and 20 meters. Looking forward to breaking in the new Optimus. All I need is a bunch of pellets and a cold beer.
