Title: Nitro Venom .22 + heavy pellets?
Post by: aznboi3644 on September 29, 2011, 09:31:15 PM
I'm exchanging my titan gp for the nitro venom at wal mart next week.  I don't like the feel of the grip and stock on the Titan.  I've only shot some CPHP 14.3 grains from the Titan and like how they shoot.

But I'm a fan of heavier pellets.  I really like how the .177 Ultra Magnums shoot out of my 880.

Anyone else here shooting 16+ grain pellets from their nitro piston .22?  Hows the 30 yard trajectory?  Biggest animal I'll take is the dang ground hog tearing up my yard.

I guess I have an affinity for heavier than normal projectiles since I shoot 600-700 grain arrows from my 45 lb bow.  The down range "thunk" into the target I LOVE.

aznboi3644,

I do not have the nitro venom, but I do have the Nitro Piston Short Stroke.  I think we are pretty close on velocities, with mine being slightly higher.  My rifle works very well with 16 to 22gr pellets.  In fact, my rifle is sighted in for the H&N Baracuda Match .22 Cal 21.14 Grains pellets.  They devastate birds and squirrels out to about 30-35.  Any distance farther than that starts to get iffy for that heavy a pellet without more power. I also like the JSB Match Diabolo Exact Jumbo Heavy .22 Cal 18.1 Grains out to 40 yards.

18-20 grain pellets and 30 yard max is the answer I was looking for...thank you.  I can wait to get this thing broken in.

If there's excess lube in the chamber can I spray some brake cleaner in there and pour it out...then let it dry for a day???

Yes, that is fine but make sure to clean it out thoroughly and avoid contact with the seals.

hello, i just snuck in a .22 titan gp. to the island. my first nitro, i did not like the stock as well. but it fit like a glove in a quest stock. it seems a bit odd "the thumbhole stock./. i just put the new butt pad on it .the spacer looks cool.

but i agree the stock on a titan? well...........

The stock...especially the grip is wide and fat.  And I don't feel like bringing out the rasp and doing some handle shaping.

The Venom stock style fits me much better.

What about using a heatgun or high watt hairdryer? It shouldn't take much. Heat it and press it flatter.  If you don't know what your'e doing tho, please disregard this post  :-\

Oh I was refering to the Titan GP grip as being too wide and fat.

I'll one day get a heat gun to do some wood bending.

I've been shooting these out of my rifle.

They aren't the heaviest out there but I like how they shoot.

I really hope once I get the itch to go shoot that they perform as good as they look and fit in the barrel.

I think you'll be satisfied with the JSBs.  You're paying pretty much the same for the Cometa pellets now, so go for it.

I've seen those gamo rockets.  I'm interested in trying them out for hunting.  I think they'd do great for head shots and really penetrate small game skulls well.  Any here use the GAMO Rockets for hunting?

I'll check out the JSBs.

Nah its pretty much cheaper.. 5.95 priority shipping and the pellets where 9.50.. works out better since I only wanted a single tin..

To clean the oil out of it, the rifle should be disassembled.

I would not spray brake cleaner down the transfer port with the piston in it, could swell the seal and most of the oil will not come out, and the chances of a detonation are quite high.

I use krudd kutter for cleaning barrels, this stuff I used about 5yrs ago when my boss wanted the decals taken off the work truck. I used a heat gun but the glue seperated from the decal and left 100% of the glue on truck.. 2 minute soak time rinse and spray it again let it sit for 1 minute and the glue wipped off.

Its a awesome cleaner and strong..
