Well it finally arrived today. the box looked like it was on a shelf for 20 years, but everything was looking good. there wasn't an excess of oil all over it like my Hatsan was when it arrived. I cleaned the barrel , only took 4 patches and came out clean. Oiled up the cocking joints and replaced the star washers on the stock with thicker flat washers and lock-tite. It shot true right out of the box, didn't have to mess with sights except to lower them 4 clicks for 20 yards sight in. It does have a kick to it for a pellet rifle, probably because of the hollow plastic stock, ( which I will remedy tomorrow), and it doesn't twang at all which was a pleasant surprise.
All I had to shoot in it were 14.3 Benji's and some old 11 grain Benji round nose diablos. Both were a tight fit in the chamber and both shot really well. I have some JSB 13.4's coming Saturday, and will see if they load or perform any better. this rifle is really a rocket even with the 14.3"s. it will pass clean right through a soup can with out knocking it over at 15 yards, I will have to see about some hollow points if I can find any where that sells them so it doesn't through and through on small game.
I was expecting more of a hassle out of this gun, more noise, excessive sight adjustment, etc. but it is a relief that it is virtually a trouble free gun so far. I am sure it will shoot even better after everything is wore in and I get about 200 pellets through it. So far it is a keeper, of course there are no "bad" air guns, only those that need work LOL.

Sounds like a keeper! Keep us posted on how she breaks in and maybe some target pics and pellets you used as some day I'll add a .20 to the collection and the VMX will probably be it unless I get crazy and spend a few hundred on a Beeman or Weihrauch...lol

This sounds like a good gun- I've been wanting another .20- been too long since I last owned one and I always thought the .20 was the perfect all-around pesting choice when you find one that can deliver good accuracy.

I'm going to run a couple hundred through it in the next couple days, and try to break her in . $151 with the tax it was a good deal I think, (this will keep my C9 company now), LOL. So far Peter it is right on the money at 20 yards with the few that I ran through it today. good enough to go hunting with, with the open sights. It would be even better if you had a scope of course, ( and younger eyes).

I have the same rifle , too. My stock forearm broke off quickly, & I now have a Striker wood stock on it. Like it a lot better than the plastic. You can take the butt pad off, fill a freezer bag with a pound or so of plumber's putty & wad it inside the stock. Tames it down quite a bit & if you don't like it, being in the plastic bag makes it easy to remove.

I did my Edge's with 100% silicone and PA pellet foam...does a nice job at eliminating the echo, keeps the weight down as it only adds a few ounces and I figured if I want to add a little weight at some point to balance out the rifle more, it's a simple matter of poking a few holes in the silicone and shoving some lead tire weights or something in and they can be easily removed later if I want and still have the foam and silicone for echo dampening.

Another easy trick is metal flange bushings in those front stock screw holes to help support the stock better, just takes a little careful drilling of the bushings and stock to put them in, got those at Amazon:
And the thread on how I did it:

I ran a bout 1oo pellets through it today. Put a scope on it ,( a cheap Crosman 4x32 ), just to see it it would work well. the thing is a tack driver for sure. I took the scope off because I really don't need it at 20 yards. I can hit just about anything the size of a squirrel head at 20 yards repeatedly with the open sights. I filled the butt with silca sand to dampen it and add a bit of weight to it and it seemed to help quite a bit. It seems to like all three of the types of pellets I ran through it today, 13.7 JSB's, 14.3 Benjamins, and some old 11 grain Benjamin diablos I have had for years. Not much deviation from one to the other, ( I tried all three in the C9 and it only really likes the 14.3's for some reason). All in all it is turning out to be an accurate rifle but is a bit harsh to shoot. If I tear it down I am sure it will be smoother with a mild tune. I used the thicker flat washers under the stock screws and reinforced it with epoxy, (this worked good on the Edge before I got the wood stock from Steve), the screws were still tight after I shot, thanks to lock-tite, LOL . I think a Spector is next on my list in .22 , as they are realatively inexpensive now on Amazon. I'll keep y'all posted and if any one has any input on this rifle feel free to give it.

Glad to hear your VMX is a shooter! I didn't realize Amazon had the Spector .22 for cheap again. I got mine for 60 something bucks a year and a half ago and it shoots great. A little rough shot cycle but it's very accurate and powerful. I filled up the stock with silicone and it made it much smoother. Also did both fixes to the trigger which made it really nice. You can find 'em by searching for Edge trigger mods. At $76 it's a steal.

Thanks Ed, I was surprised by the trigger on this VMX. It was really smooth and predictable, the Edge I bought was not and I did the necessary mods on it to get it acceptable. All in all I am impressed with this .20 cal. maybe I lucked out nd got a rifle made on Wednesday ha ha.

It's a Winchester 4x32 AO. cheap scope, but it works fine for the range I'm going to be shooting at, ( 20yards or so). I have used them on other guns and prove to be a low cost, rugged scope that holds zero well. I don't know what people need pictures of? A Stock VMX? A cheap Scope? A tin can with holes in it?

Well I tore it down just to see if it was any different from my other springers. Yes, and no. the safety and bear trap were more different, and that safety knob on the end makes it difficult to get a good solid push on, but I am going to make a special end for my spring compressor. I replaced the 42 coil spring in it with a Crosman 34 coil spring from one of my "1200 fps" Crosmans. It cocks A LOT easier, shoots much smoother, and I can't really tell any difference in power other than a test on wood I did to see the penetration, and it was a nominal difference. I am sure I lost a bit of FPE/FPS, but it is a much smoother rifle to shoot now, I will take it down again to tune it after I make the new end to fit the Hatsan tube end. If this turns out to be a viable switch I will do the same to my .177, as it is tiresome to shoot more than 20 pellets in one sitting, as the noise and recoil are pretty wild in it. The massive top jhat in it will probably relate to more FPE than a Crosman top hat, but it doesn't seem to transfer to the shooting ease of the rifle. so far I am pleased, I will test it further to see how it works out.

Just a quick update: Well a few thousand rounds through it, and it still shoots well. With the Crosman spring, mild tune, and a little weight in the front of the piston it is a really nice quiet, easy to shoot rifle now. It is a utility gun, as most of mine are, so looks are unimportant to me and sports a quick spray can paint job, reinforced stock screw holes, a 4x32 AO scope and I filled the butt stock with 3/4# of modeling clay so it definitely deadens the noise and adds a better point of balance and additional weight to a very light stock. It is not very hold sensitive now, still carries out to 50 yards straight, and will shoot Benjiman 14.3's as good as the lighter JSBs I have for it, keeping the cost of the ammo down. I'd buy another, but this one works well enough with out having two of them, besides I have my C9A also, so some one else can get one for them selves before they are all gone.

Well since you painted it, you gotta show pics.
And nice mod with the spring. I had watched a video and in stock form it had one of the loudest twangs I'd ever heard. Knowing it can be toned down with a spring with less coils may force me to place an order.
I need a .20 to sit between my Blackhawk Elite .177 and my Crusher .22 NP.

I couldn't pass up the Amazon $99 deal on this rifle and I have one on the way. How high is the front sight? Can I put my Wiliiams peep on this rifle? That would be nice...

It has a shroud on the front & the front sight is probably 3/4" above the barrel. I have a scope on mine, now.
