Title: How to spend $100 in Discovery accuracy mods?
Post by: PyroMonkey on May 21, 2012, 10:53:11 PM
If you had $100 to spend on discovery mods to improve accuracy what would you buy?

Here's my list but I would like to hear your opinion

1. 2nd barrel band

2. long probe or flow thru bolt

3. recrowned barrel

4. trigger mod of some sort

Probe is a given.

Second barrel band, depends on if you've had any issues with POI or if you plan on using a TKO muzzle break? for $7 why not.

Barrel crown, are you having any issues with getting good groups, if not use the money on the TKO. My groups well with stock crown.

Trigger, this is easy enough to do with ball point pen spring and some 6-32 screws unless you want a metal trigger?

Good scope, this gun can take advantage of it.

Rifle sling stud so you can mount bi-pod?

long probed bolt/flow through bolt
mrod trigger/challenger trigger guard
2nd barrel band

if the crown is bad then swap the mrod trigger group for a new barrel or find a member here who has the ability and know how to cut you a fresh good crown on ur current barrel.

or just enjoy the disco how it is and put that 100 bucks in to a jar and add more money to it when you can and then you can get ur self a multi shot breech and full shroud.

ive done the heavy hammer spring, and didnt like the feeling of pumping to 2400psi on a unreinforced disco valve. so i pulled the heavy spring out and put the stock spring in with a home made power adjuster cranked to coil bind and then backed off untill it could cock properly.  now days i focus more on accuracy then power and the only power mod on my disco as of right now is a delrin hammer spring guide for the stock hammer spring so it adds a tiny tiny amount of preload and im happy with its power. of course now im turning it into more of a long range shooter so heavier pellets help fight the wind and what not but they shoot slower. so im going to need to up the power again at some point.

Mrod trigger + challenger trigger guard = less then $75 shipped

Barrel band + bolt = less then $20 shipped

So you could get all 4 $95 and change give or take a few bucks. But less then $100 for all of it.

* prices rounded up a few bucks each because I couldn't remember the exact pricing off the top of my head.. mellonair.com's prices include shipping and crosman charges $4 shipping on all parts orders ( $4 for the whole order, not $4 for each part.)

How about sending it off for an $80 tune. Money well spent ...

Been a long time since I owned a Disco, but gotta say (with only the best intentions)

IF you have a drill, why spend anything to start off with?

Use some elbow grease on the trigger, Crosmans triggers are generally horrible, but can at least be smoothed out/made predictable with good polishing.   Sometimes adding bearingtip screw can change a trigger completely.

Recrown, I would ALWAYS attempt it myself at least 1 or 2 times first.

Extended bolt probe, easily done.   Cut off existing bolt just past the o-ring.  Drill a small hole.  Insert a finishing framing nail cut to the desired length and epoxy in.

I personally (on most any gun) will spend a max of 20 bucks on the gun and have it shooting better.

IF I were to spend any money to start, it would be on a proven trigger insert of some kind.

Then spend the rest on pellets  ;D

God bless,

Farmer
