Why does my Crosman 2100 hiss ?

I have an 880 from Daisy and each pump you hear nothing but silent pressure being built up upon the valve consistently.
I just received a Refurbished 2100 from Crosman and different from the 880 each pump I hear air escaping. If I pump it fast it seems to build pressure sooner.
She shoots fine but I feel like 6 slow pumps produce slower fps than 6 fast pumps due to the perception of air not dumping as much.
I haven't the chance to crony the different 6 pump styles or 7 or 8 etc..
Is this a normal characteristic for all 2100's or is mine loosing pressure and defective in some way?
Update,
Crony shows the 2100 shooting mid 400's after 5-6 pump while the Daisy 880 is low 600's after 6.
Those last 4 pumps from the 880 have little return on you're investment huh?
I think 10 pumps brings it closer to 700fps usually a little over hmm...
Although a drop of oil gave me 726 fps after 11 pumps. (Hobbies).

I'm guessing that there could be a sealing issue with the piston cup or valve front O-ring. Have you tried oiling the cup with 30w ND oil or PellGun oil? If it doesn't improve things, maybe your best bet would be to take the rifle apart to visually check the conditions of the cup/O-ring, and also see if there are any burrs in the tube that could have damaged the cup/O-ring when assembled. It may also be just a dirt particle trapped on the sidewall of the piston cup. Since your rifle is a refurb, it could have been returned because of that issue
. But, WDIK? Hope that help, and good luck!

Thanks happymecanic, I did over oil it last night and after a few shots this morning it seems to have stopped. We'll see if it cleared it out or if its permanent and I'll have to tear it down?

If you just received the gun refurbished from Crosman it should perform as new. If it does not it should be covered by their warranty.

You are correct Roadworthy but I paid $39.00 + $12.09 shipping.
I've dealt with Crosman before and they have told me "no problem just send it back".
It will cost me another $12 to send it back and I'll loose the gun for at least 2 weeks.
All this for an on a whim refurbished gun I thought was $39.00. add to that $24 for shipping each way and it will end up costing me $63 for a used gun with scratches that is about $2-5.00 short of a new gun shipped.
Prime 2 day and a call tag pick up if somethings wrong, if I could get it!
You take your chances with any refurb.
In the past all of my Crosman's refurbs have been like new.
Either QC has gotten bad or it's always been a luck of the draw and I have been lucky up till now.
I'll think twice about buying a refurb from now on.
P.S my 2nd in a row bad refurb. I guess my lucky streak is over.

Well the hissing of my 2100 Refurb went from after 5 pumps to every pump after the 1st.
http://www.crosman.com/outlet/refurbished-classic-2100
I had to tear it down.
I couldn't recognize the culprit so I decided to open the exploded PDF and order everything related to the compression system From the cup to the valve, seals, to the breech seal. I was taking no chances.
To my surprise the woman at Crosman's parts line told me there would be no charge because I bought it a week ago.
I've bought a lot of guns from Crosman so I guess I'm in their system.
I had written to customer Service a day earlier venting my dissatisfaction about everything from the incompetent Technicians, the scratches on my receiver to the cost of sending it back was cost prohibitive on a $39.00 gun. I wanted PARTS !
I expected a reply saying send the gun to us.
Later the same the day I received an email back from Crosman CS with an included PDF of the 2100 asking that I write back with the parts I wanted for my gun.
Even though in My original venting letter I mentioned that I could live with the scratched right receiver.
Sally I believe her name was, offered the Receiver cover replacement although understandably not covered under warranty on a refurb. .
I gave her the part number for the scratched receiver.
Sally wrote back to tell me she'll send both sides at no charge.
My faith in Crosman has been restored. My 2100 will be near new.
