Title: Replacement Stock
Post by: trip on January 25, 2012, 09:09:30 AM

Hello everyone, looking for a non-thumbole wooden gunstock that fits the Trail NP action. I prefer the satin finish compared to the bright, shiny finish on some stocks, which is the reason for my post. Considering the nitro venom and quest stocks, but would like suggestions for any others. I am just trying to find advice and suggestions for a matte or satin finish stock for this action, based on other members views. I have ordered parts from Crosman before, and would do so again for the right stock, but if any other manufacturer has a stock  that would work, I would consider that option as well.  Any help is appreciated.

I have big hands and fingers but love the feel of the Summit stock. Although a shiny, you can hit it with Scotchbrite or steel wool to knock the luster down.

Something about that stock just feels like a high dollar pb gun to me.
Happy Shooting!!!!

^+1 I also have the Summit stock on my Trail NP. Have done alot of reshaping on the inlet for various reasons but well worth the trouble so far.

Remember, any stock you end up getting, you can always spray some Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane in the Clear Satin finish after a light swipe with some steel wool/tac cloth/denatured alcohol. Very quick and easy process, and it'll protect even more. You can either do 3 coats, or I went over ten coats in over 10 hrs. Neat stuff. Just wait 72 hrs before installing the action in it, but can handle after 24 hrs. Just an idea.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I do like the summit stock. I have tried to order a summit stock from crosman several times in the last 3-4 months to refinish, but I am always told they are on order. from reading other posts it seems they sell out very quickly. I was able to get one summit stock from crosman that was part of a warranty return, but the stock itself was so twisted and warped it was unusable. the steel wool/minwax poly idea sounds much easier and more cost effective than a total refinish and sounds like a good idea. I will probably just have to call crosman daily until the stocks arrive.:-\

Trip,

When you call Crosman, ask for "Chuck". He is a Tech and a member of GTA .

His GTA name is "TeamTRUsound"

Good Luck,

Dave

Anybody know if the summit stock will fit an NPXL? I want to get something without a thunbhole but don't want to be into it for big dollars or try to make my own. If it is an easy swap it is definitely something I would do.

Thanks
Jeff

@trip,

I know I said steel wool in my post, but maybe some 800 or higher-grit auto wet/dry sandpaper would work too for better adherence of the poly. Either way you choose, have a very light hand and fingers, especially around the corners of the stock, which I'm sure you well know. It'd not so good to get a brand new darker stock and mess it up by taking a corner off down to bare wood. You never know how thick those factory stocks' finishes are. Just another .02c worth.

Unfortunately no, the XL will not fit the Summit stock. I'd like to find one for my XL also. I'm guessing I'll have to follow Howie's instructions and just hand carve my own.

Been wondering what other stock/s will fit my Titan...I like the thumbhole and will contour it to fit where I want it to but just curious as to what else will fit if I decide, down the road, to change it out...
