Exposed Dials on Open Sights...?

I'm pretty new to break barrel air guns and shoot/hunt with open sights. One thing that annoys me with the two brands of air guns that I have bought so far is the exposed dials on the rear sight. I brushed against the elevation dial and changed the setting while hunting the other day. I put witness marks on them now so I can tell at a glance if they've moved. I've shot pb guns my entire life and none of them had exposed dials that could be accidentally changed. They're protected and most require a screwdriver to adjust them. What's the logic behind the exposed dials on air guns?

most "Higher end" open sights on air guns are of pretty good quality; notably HW/Beeman, FWB and a few others.
you might want to try a Williams rear with target knobs for your rear sight. go to their website and check them out.
Mendoza used to make a good rear peep ... i use one on my RWS Diana 52...but i can no longer find them available.

I think THEY think they are target sights.
But with target shooting at a fixed distance, at a fixed size target, with the same ammo, changes should never be needed.
I agree that hunting sights don't need to be adjusted more than once, like PB sights.
I have my first rifle, a Remington 511, with open sights.
Haven't adjusted them since the first time in 1958.
Haven't needed to.
Use good ol' Pennsylvania windage and holdover, when needed.
p.s. My Discovery is equipped with a Williams peep with screwed down adjustments.
Same reason, set 'em and forget 'em...

I bet you're right about the target sight reasoning Tom. Even when I have to adjust my sights for a different pellet weight (or load w/pb) its not a big deal to break out a screw driver.
Dwalk, I have thought about the Williams sights. With the witness marks I should be good but I'll probably wind up changing them out down the road.
