Are all manufactures standard on how long a mainspring is covered under warranty? Does anyone have any insight here.
Thanks, Bill.

The answer would probably lie with the distributor whether the spring is covered under the gun's warranty. That is, I feel it should be. I would hope the spring would last for the normal year of warranty. However the spring, like the seals, is considered an expendable. It's kind of like clutch, tires, and belts on a car.
If the vendor or distributor is really considerate they may run the spring on warranty. If they choose not to, to preserve the rest of the warranty you will probably have to have them repair the gun - shipping both ways and labor, as well as the part. If you can't talk them into a warranty fix you'll have to think about where to go from there.

Thomas, thanks for the comments. It will probably be faster, cheaper, and better to just order a spring from Vortek.

Someone might have a spring they would send you also.
I've sent out a few I didn't need.

Jeff, they're are some very generous people here for sure. I have a BSA Polaris (.177) the only thing I know is that it has 33 coils from looking at the parts list. I just finished building a spring compressor so I'm ready to go.

Don't know much about BSA's but doesn't Gamo own them now?
The Gamo Spring from Vortek should work based on Airgunspares.com's info.

Might be able to get a good spring at a good price from ARH.

Jeff, yes GAMO has owned BSA for many years. Barrels are still made in Birmingham England but assembled in Spain. Thanks for that info I will check it out right now.

I may be overly cautious, but I'd measure the outside diameter of the spring and the wire thickness. If you opt to go for a different thickness of wire the number of coils can vary - smaller diameter wire generally giving a bit less power but less recoil. If the new spring has not been "set" it will probably be longer than the old one, even with the same wire and number of coils.
Food for thought.

The dictionary meaning of "set" varies by application. Pertaining to springs it refers to "memory". If you purchase a new spring specific to your gun, say from ARH, it will be two to four inches longer than the old one. For a fee (a couple of dollars) they will "set" the spring. They compress it a specific amount over a fixed period of time. The spring will then stay at a shorter length. It will expand a bit beyond where they had it compressed. It may still be a bit longer than your original but will be closer.
Of course you can get a bolt and a couple of washers and set it yourself. You can also install it with no set, it will be a bit too long but it should compress into place.

Just heard from GAMO, they do not warranty any part unless you send them the rifle for inspection. You pay shipping both ways. I asked for what reason they would not cover the mainspring and they said it could be over oiled, dry fired etc. I am really hesitant to pay shipping both ways and wait 4 to 6 weeks. Looks like a Winter project for me. I'm bummed, this rifle was my favorite.

Here is another option, Titan mainspring, I got one for my 350 Magnum, very powerfull spring. You might have to cut a coil or two depending on how fast you want to shoot. Titan spring will be stronger than stock.

Robert, thanks again. I haven't taken a rifle apart since my Army days 1966-1969. That was an M-14. This will add a new dimension to my hobby.
