Break-In Standard

Greetings,
Has anyone or organization established a standard for break-in for break-barrel or under/side lever air guns? I'm thinking of shots and barrel cleaning. I have heard of roughly 1000 shots.

there is no way to set a rule. you can get 2 new identical guns and shoot them equally and 1 will always break in faster. as for cleaning its all about when accuracy drops. and first shot must be from a cleaned barrel. you don't have any idea what evil &^^& is inside the barrel that you cant see

There is really no way to measure it, so it is impossible to tell when exactly the gun becomes broken-in. But you'll know it (feel it) when it happens. The 1k number is a general rule of thumb based on the collective experience of a large numer of shooters. Not very scientific, but gives you a rough idea what it takes.
My personal experience has been to first clean the barrel, then shoot at least 1000 cheap pellets nor paying much attention to the accuracy. Only after that, I clean the barrel again and start testing for the best pellet.

I agree. I usually start off with cheap pellets. I've found Crosman Premier Hollow Points are a pretty good choice. Anyways, I get a couple of tins of those down range, then I clean the barrel, then I start looking for alternative pellets. But, yeah, there's no set number before break in.

When in doubt, shoot some cans.
