odd problem with my 34

well i am doing some pellet testing. yesterday i shot it and decided on a few pellets to try at longer distance and wiped her down and put her away. well i got it out this morning to shoot a squirrel in the yard and missed it 3 times
well i brought her in the house and put her away to go do some family things. when i got home i set up a good bench setup just like i had been doing the day before and started shooting. the groupings were way worse than ever before and the poi was way off. i noticed that it took allot of effort to get the barell to close. way more than usual. i ran a dry patch through her and shot a few more times. the pattern tightened up but the poi was shifting. i checked all the screws on the rifle and re-tightened all the scope mounting bolts and shot a few more times. problem seemed to get better till about 6 shots in then the poi started walking again. this time i removed the scope (cp 3x9x40) and the utg scope mount base and inspected everything. while i had it off i decided to shoot the open sights. when i cocked it the barrel tension seem to be fine now. way easier than it was with the scope base and scope mounted. does this sound familiar to anyone? how should i address this issue. thanks

First off, doubt it has anything to do with the scope.
Flip the rifle over and make sure the stock screws are not makking contact with the cocking arm.
Some moly lube on the spring load locking ball (lock up in the breach) will help with the consistent lock up.
When switching pellets, do not expect to return to the original pellet with the same poi, each pellet will lead the barrel differently and requires a few down the barrel to reseason the bore.

did you go from a warm house out into cold air? if so did you sight the rifle up out in the cold air? if you did either or it won't shoot the same POI due to temp changes!

well i was shooting the same pellet i finished testing with. it was in the same house with the same temp, same setup and everything. i proably shot 30 of it this morning and shot 15 through it yesterday before i put it away. (rws super dome.) the barrel lock up seemed to be ok, it just felt like it was being pinched at the end where it bolts. it seemed to have alot of drag there then it freed up abunch after i took the scope base off. it didnt make since to me either.

well all is right with the world again. i had a new center point 3x9x40 and rings still in the package so i took the old scope and rings off and mounted the new ones and presto. just for grins and giggles i cycled through 6 diffrent pellets then back to the cphp and it went right back to poi. i bet the toughness with the cocking was due to the fact that it is still breaking in and maby had a burr or shaving or some grit of somekind in there. it is shooting as good or better than it ever did. wierd but maby that scope or rings went bad

well the saga takes another turn. i decided to shoot this morning and the rifle seemed to shoot ok for a bit then it started shifting poi again.
so as i looked it over i noticed a grey residue coming from the pivot point. it appeared to be metal dust. i wiped it clean and shot it some more. the more i shot the looser the pivot became. now it wont even Begin to stay up unless it is in the locked position. doesn't seem to have any play in it but it is really loose as far as how easily the barrel swings up and down almost as if it were on bearings.

You should order some lubes. Moly...metal to metal paste.
Remove the barrel from the forks, lube the washers, then re-install and tighten to where the barrel will stay on its own.
Also lube the bolt aswell.
If they sold these guns completely tuned, they would cost a lot more.
Also if this is in the breach area...could be lead dust.

thanks for the advise. the screw had come loose so i used some blue locktight and re tightened it. i pulled the pin out and it seemed to have plenty of lube on it. going to order some lubes and deburr, lube tune it myself i think. not sure which piston seal to order. vortex has several to choose from. i think i am going to try the krytox on the internals and the molly on the pivot. maby krytox everywhere. should i replace or upgrade the piviot washers while i am in there?

Either of these from air rifle headquarters will work.
Or a vortek proseal
The pivot washers are steel, my 34's have countless thousands of shots and the barrel still holds firm.
Just need to moly them to reduce wear, they will last forever.
Do not know if there are aftermarket ones, these never wear out.
I am not discounting this krytox....But the lubes from airrifleheadquarters, have been tested and tested and tested.
I would need more than just a couple people testifying to its quality, longevity and performance in an air rifle application.
This is my opinion.
