Title: Hatsan/Hammerli Tank leaking air?
Post by: mtbdrew on January 21, 2013, 05:10:34 PM
Replaced all the parts on the valve end but still have a very slow leak so anyone know the trick to remove the parts on the gauge end?

I bought a used cylinder for my at44, it was from an older Pneuma & it had a slow leak.  Removed cylinder & held each end in a cup of water. Found out that it was leaking thru the gage. Had to replace gage with new one.  Good luck.

How did you get the gauge assemble off the tank?

With the tank removed, I found a smooth steel rod (or long bolt w/ unthreaded section) that was close to the same size as the fill port. Put rod thru fill port hole, clamp rod in vise & unscrew tank by hand.  If the gage is OK, the check valve oring may need replaced. When you have it apart, you will see a plug with 3 holes in it, unscrew plug, becarefull not to lose the spring behind it.  The check valve will drop right out.  These things are preaty easy to work on once you see how they are put together. Good luck !

And DRAIN THE TANK FIRST !

Thanks Rocko that is just what the doctor ordered. Funny thing is mine didn't leak until I sent it for repair, they had to adjust it cause you couldn't fill the tank when it was installed as the holes for the inlet port didn't line up correctly and were blocked by the barrel.

So used the balloon trick (put one over each end of the tank) to confirm the leak was definitely on inlet/gauge end of the tank. Used the video Rocko added to remove the end and immediate spotted something that didn't look right. Don't mean to be crude but it looked like someone had let a used condom in the tank  :o

If you check the video above this is supposed to be the o-ring around the inside end of the air intake valve (large black o-ring in video). With as bad as this thing looked I'm surprised the air wasn't coming out of the tiny pin hole a lot faster.

Anyway replaced this o-ring as well as the one shown in the video which was hard as plastic and oddly shaped. Got it back together now and pumped to 200bar. Balloon has been on the end for about an hour so far and it has not inflated at all yet.

Thanks again for the information.
