scope mount Phantom

I have a Crosman Phantom and want to mount a scope to it I ordered some rings from crosman and then saw some weaver type rail for the top of the recever that looks like it is screwed down from the top. do I need to have my receiver drilled and tapped or is this something that you do yourself. Thanks in advance.

The compression tube is too thin for drilling and tapping. What you may have seen was one of the models with a Weaver rail welded to the tube(Crosman Nitro Venom, Ruger Air Magnum--maybe others too). You may also have seen a dovetail to Weaver type one-piece mount. I haven't had good luck with two-piece mounts on springers, but I've never tried some of the pricier ones. There's a guy on another forum who swears by the Beeman/Sportsmatch two piece rings. I think maybe the one-piece mounts dissipate some of the vibration -that's my theory anyway. I've used the Leapers one-piece mounts on my Crosmans and have had no problems.

is it a aftermarket part or do you just have to buy an air rifle that has one on it as a stock item?

The welded Weaver rails are a stock item already on those models I mentioned and maybe a few others that I can't remember. A Leapers one-piece will set you back less than $20 and should do fine on a Phantom.

you can order the dovetail to weaver adapters, several companies make them. RWS even makes some that compensate for barrel droop.
Do search for 11mm to weaver adapter.
Alternatively just buy 11mm dovetail rings for the scope.
