Title: How do I reset Zero on my Center Point scope?
Post by: tobar832 on April 28, 2012, 01:46:26 PM
I got 2 Walley world Center Point 4-16x40mm scopes.   The scope are pretty good and I like them.  There are on a B26 and a B25 I just got from Mike M.  Now I want to reset zero on them.  No instructions in the packet or on the web site.  All they say is the hex wrench is included to reset.  I also have a small screw driver(2) that came with the pack.  Someone let me know the trick.
Maybe just loosen the small screw in the knob and turn to zero?  I got these zeroed perfect and hate to do something stupid  and have to start all over again.

Use allen wrench and loosen screw.  When loose enough, the knob will free spin without making the stem "click."  Once you place the Zero (0) where ever you wish just tighten down the allen wrench.  On some scopes there are two or three allen wrench screws.  You can back them all out and removed the knob completely if you wish.  Won't hurt a thing so long as you replace the knob securely and tighten (dont overtighten and strip the threads) with the zero where ever you want.

Thanks, I didn't get an allen with the scope but I got one that small.  I also have small set screws on the knob too.  I try both and try to figure which ones hold the knob.   There seems to be quite a few posters with this scope, that how I got the idea to try this Center point scope.  I've been hammering the target with these.  Mike tuned the B26 and lubed tune the B25 and they shooting sweet.

I have the same scope and mine has three (3) equally spaced small screws on the number ring AND two 1/16" allen screws set into the threaded fixed area below the ring where the cap screws on.
The scope came with the allen wrench and a small jewelers screwdriver, but of course, no mention of their usage.  I guess they couldn't even venture a guess how to translate instructions from Chinese to English.  Typical.!!!

Anyone want to take a guess which one I should change???
One of you guys try changing yours first so I don't screw up my scope . <;-}

ps... I probably wouldn't buy this scope again, as it blurs out above 10x, which effectively makes it a 4-10x scope instead of a 4-16x...

remove the scope from the rifle

go into bathroom and turn the lights on, place the front of the scope against the bathroom mirror, look through the scope.

you will se the crosshairs and the reflection of the crosshairs.. adjust turrets to wheree the reflection lines up the real crosshairs.. ur scope is now optically centered

Mustang Mike's trick for optically centering the crosshairs works.  I now do it on any new scope I purchase.  After you optically center the crosshairs it is a good time to set the knobs to zero.  It really doesn't matter where you set the zero so long as you remember where you set it.

From what I gather, setting the knobs to zero helps you set the elevation should you wish to change the crosshairs for dialed in at 25 yrds to perhaps 50 yrds or even 100.  A set number of clicks from "zero" should give you reproduceable elevation (or windage for that matter) adjustment.  This then allows you to return the reticle (crosshairs) easily back to 25yrds after your long shot.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You hit one the mark, I try mine first.   I'll thinking it's the small screws on the knob, not the small allens.  The allens look more on the order of taking the whole turret out.

Anyone have any idea what the two pin-spanner type parts in the top do??
Iguess I forgot to include the photos on my first post. Here:

On my scope (a different mfg) my adjustment knob also has three screws on the side of the knob.  Mine are actually small allen screws.
I have no idea what the spanner rings on top might be for???????

Those grub screws in the threaded area are below the knob and I don't know what they might be holding.  (Centering the stem somehow??)

Back the three screws out but leave them threaded so you don't lose them.  If these are the zero adjustment screws, you will be able to free spin the know without "clicking" the reticle adjustment.  Then you can set the zero in whatever position suits you.  It is advantageous to set your zero somewhere in the middle of your click range (hence the optical centering before you do this) so you have plenty of clicks available to adjust your scope.  (Different pellets/distances etc)

I plan to zero my knobs at my default sight-in distance - 30 yds.

Then at longer or shorter ranges I can adjust POA with clicks instead of hold-over/hold-under, and still be able to quickly return to my default range by adjusting back to zero.

From watching a lot of tv programs, that looks like the way snipers do it.

I'd never  remember another number as my baseline.  I can't remember what I had for lunch an hour ago.
If the turrets were taller, I'd make a turret tape with the range markers on it.  Chairgun has the tools..

I got it reset to zero(by sure luck)!  Taking a closer look at the numbers one set spun like a top.  After putting about 350 pellets through the gun with the this scope the screws(3 slots) were loose.  Moved the windage to zero and tighten the screws back up.  I have no  idea the screws you have pictured are.  What kind of wrench would you use on them?
Anyway my original premise of zeroing(reset) after you have the scope dialed in is the 3 slotted screws on the outer dial.  Pictured helped thanks!!! ;D

Thanks,

I'll try resetting it when I get the final sight-in.

Those two pin-spanner are the springs/adjustment for the clicks. Mine were loose, I noticed clicks didn't seem a solid and positive.  The that make a sense?  But after turning them back in the adjustment seemed  better, tighter.
I got two of these scopes on a B26 and B25.  After getting zeroed in they pretty accurate.  You have to make sure all screws and adjustment knobs are tighten down good.  Should of done this on initial mounting.  Lucky a didn't loose something off the scopes.
