Crosman Barrel Quality

I recently read a thread in the Air Gun Gate Forum,
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=110179.0
I inspected the barrel on my 11 year old Remington Genesis and found this damage. It could explain why it was not a consistent shooter.
Crosman now does the barrels in house to a high standard, as I can see in my Benjamin Trail NP2. I ordered a replacement barrel yesterday from Crosman. Hopefully it will be as nice as the NP2 barrel. Crosman assured me it will be a new barrel, and not an old stock item. They told me they don't keep old stock, as they sell it off after a few years. I will update you on the replacement barrel after I receive it.
I just wish I had noticed this issue earlier when it was still under warranty.

I've been having excellent luck with the newer Crosman barrels, I've got an 18" that I haven't used yet but after inspecting it closer I found a burr on the barrel port that needed to be taken care of but other than that I'd say it's also going to be a good one too.

I turned the end of a current Crosman barrel for an old worn out brass barrel 101 that I have....This will outshoot any original that I have and I have maybe 20. When I finish the modified bolt to end the air loss, I will have the ultimate pumper...At least for me...

So, if you had the choice between a 14.6" Crossman barrel or a 14.6" Lothar Walther barrel if building your own, would you save the money and go Crosman or would you spend the extra and go LW?

Now I am a bit confused and frustrated. The barrel arrived last night. It is a plain oiled barrel that has not been blued.
Am I missing something here. Was I wrong to expect the new barrel to arrive blued and ready to install?
Of course it's the weekend and I have no way to contact Crosman till next week.

That's odd ESully that it's not blued, every barrel I've bought from Crosman was blued, however they were all 22xxx barrels too, I'm sure that the Disco barrels come blued too but I could be wrong.

If the original barrel is blued, the replacement should be. I haven't worked on a Genesis but even Crosman barrels that are shrouded (like the Marauder, 1720T, etc.) are blued. I'm sorry they wasted your time. I really struggle to understand how they make mistakes like that. That should have been caught at incoming materials inspection or at least when it was pulled to ship.

Comparing my new Crosman NP2 barrel with the original one that came with the gun, I noticed much more attention was given to the crown. After pushing a few pellets though, there seems to be no bad spots. One word of caution, be careful if you are a barrel bender. I have found my new barrel bends much easier than the one that came with the gun.
That being said my NP2 is hitting dead one today. Hopefully, it will stay on target as it has a history of needing to be fine turned from time to time.

Crosman is making it right. A new blued barrel is being sent out. They promised it will be checked carefully. First was a mistake by pulling from the wrong bin during the Holiday rush.
I have always received polite and good service when I call them. Part of the reason I have 5 Crosman guns.
On top of that, they told me to keep the non-blued barrel. Judging by the look of the crown work on the non-blued barrel, and my Trail NP2's, I'm sure the one I will get is going to be nice.
Now, what to do with the bare metal barrel?

Well, I am a little disappointed at this point. The second barrel arrived last night, and it was another bare metal barrel.
Looks like I will be returning both barrels.
Service Rep said something about how they now only make the breech and barrel as an assembly, and blue them at the same time. There was some confusion at Crosman when they sent me the barrel separately. They said they would blue one of the returned barrels for me. At this point I may just ask them to credit back the purchase price.
One of the issues is how difficult it is to install the new threaded barrel into the breech. I did some research, and it seems as though it takes a good barrel vice and a lot of effort to thread on a new barrel. It would not be worth the cost for me to pay someone to install it, or buy the tools needed to do it myself, considering the value of the airgun.
It's a shame since the new barrels look to be nicely made now. I may just cut off the rough end of the original barrel and do a new crown.
