There is a lot of info on the internet on how to crown a barrel. Some professional and some home made crowns. The main reason for a crown is for a even and smooth disbursement of air pressure when projectile is leaving the barrel to maintain accuracy. I am sure more experienced member can add a lot to this.

crowning is that way when the pellet leaves the barrel it leaves it all at the same time
kind of like a car with one front tire low on air, the car pulls to that side.. if even the smallest area of the pellet does not leave the barrel at the exact same time as the rest of it then it will throw the pellet off course..

I have gotten 2 of the Mellon air barrels and they are super accurate with his crowns ,they praise his barrels on the forums and I can see why.
