Hatsan 95 Vortex inaccurate all of a sudden

I took my mod 95 vortex .25 out to shoot yesterday and the accuracy has gone way downhill. Before I could easily get 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards but now I am getting 2 inch groups at 20 yards. I checked my stock screws, checked breech seal cleaned the barrel. I haven't had any trouble with my scope, it has always been spot on. The only thing I can think that it could be is that the piston seal is starting to go. Does anybody else have any ideas? Where is the best place to find a piston seal for the 95? Preferably one that I can drop in without re-sizing. Thanks for the help guys.

A chrony would be a good way to determine erratic behavior of compression cycle, but even then could be piston seal and or your Vortex. Maybe rule out you scope by shooting it on another rifle and/or shooting your 95 with open? Here is OEM:

Ive had good luck with communicating with them, so dont hesitate to ask questions of them and always a grain of salt in case you dont get someone experienced.

Thanks Chris, and I think a chrony may be next on my list of things to get.

Does it seem to cock easier? That would be the Gas Piston.
Does it sound like the piston is slamming harder when fired? That would be the piston seal as it lost some cushioning effect by air bleeding past.
Are the POI's scattered or off but constant? Both would make me suspect the Scope if none of the above are true.

Everything seems the same except the poi is scattered theres no guessing where the pellet will go. I guess you could be right it may be the scope. Just because its been great doesn't mean it cant break. Everything works good until it doesn't right? Well Ill have to take it off and try it on another gun...

I use mostly JSB .25 kings. Absolutely the most accurate pellet in my mod 95. Ive tried many kinds of pellets but nothing beats the JSB's.

Hey Tweeter,
My Model 95's shot H&N 19.91 about 645 fps (Springer) and 630 fps (Vortex).
Things to check
:
1) Make sure barrel is clean.
2) Tighten all screws, especially rear trigger and Main bolt through breach.
3) Breach Seal, put dental floss or pipe tape underneath to make it proud.
4) Crown; do the "Cue Tip" test. You may want to try a rubber polishing tip (like countersink) in bore to polish any Sharpe edges
5) Scope stop, make sure both screws are tight.
6) Scope, maybe it broke?
7) Trigger, is it realeasing smoothly? A poor trigger will ruin accuracy.
8. Piston seal, maybe some metal got in there? If yes, go to AGH - $12.95
9) If you get to step #8), do a complete tune using AGH lubes $23.95
Good Luck..............Kirk

Thanks for the info kirk, I was actually hoping you would see this. I've read a lot of your posts and know you have a lot of experience with Hatsans. I have done the tissue paper test on the breech seal and theres no problem with that but do you think that shimming it just a bit could help any? Or should I not mess with it until I need to? All the screws are tight I check them after every session. I have my scope marked and it hasn't moved but since the gun seems to shoot and feel like it always has my guess is it may be the scope. Been working a lot so I haven't had a chance to check it on another gun.

Hey Tweeter,
Glad to help
One thing I would check is,
Centering your scope
. It could be that previous adjustments you have made (primarily - UP/Right) have moved the reticle to a position where it is no longer stable within the scope tube. The springs holding the recticle lose tension as the scope is adjusted - UP/Right.
Centering is a process whereby you move the recticle back to its optimal center position, so the scope is operating in its (focal) sweet spot. Go to CDT webpage and read his article about centering the scope. Any scope too far out of center (UP/Right) simple cannot function. After trying this, if no go, try a different scope. Get a Hawke or Leapers (3x9x40) at a minimum.
Don't mess with shimming the breach right now; I haven't really had to do much of that with my 95's.
Good Luck ........ Kirk
