One with a good warranty. Know the people you are buying from and their return policies. Don't just go with the absolute lowest price. Seems about 20% of ALL scopes have problems. 30mm tubes are more robust than 1 inch tubes. Etched glass reticles are less likely to break than wire reticles.
What magnification and $$$ range? All scopes have problems...

Wish I knew. Gone through three, stock scope and two Hawke. Haven't gotten out to do some shooting or get around to returning latest scope. Hawke side focus won't hold up on mine. Broke both the Varmint and Vantage. That was more scope than I needed- 3-12X44, but they've a great return policy with quick turn around. Only problem is you pay for return. On the next return will be their Airmax 3-12X40 AO. Same price point so good exchange to try. Airmax series are built tougher but there was no way I was upgrading to the Airmax side focus.
People are having good luck with Center Point 3-9 and some others. Make sure to send through 50 pellets to calm the gun down before mounting a scope. There is also a thread where people are using 1/8 inch closed cell neoprene strips with tape one side between stock and barrel. Not sure how well that would work on 125 synthetic stock. Yet to try it. Some reported drastic improvement to recoil.

Just sharing info, but no actual experience.
When I asked Hawke about the magnum recoil.., besides monotube + glass etched.., the other feature they did mention was some 30 mm models with a - coil spring - at the erector tube.
To complete this information from Gut2Fish.

I'd like to keep it under $200. and as few adjustments as possible. I don't know much about scopes.
So I don't want to have to adjust POI or much else if I go from 20 yds to 40 yds just move a dot or 2.
That said what scope would work?

pGunner,
You may be better off with open sights. All scope are going to have to be fiddled with. Setting them up can take a while.

I think is an interesting and valid experience.
While the 'repeatability'/grouping is ok for your needs, in terms of scope's protection, it should be much better than nothing. It may have an additional feature, once, besides the forward and backward recoils, it may also be dampening the "all directions" vibrations..
Please try to estimate your rounds number and keep us posted.

I've got a Walther Talon Magnum .22 springer I bought from a fellow member here so it was already broken in but it, for all intents, is the same rifle as the Sniper and I've currently got 130 rounds through it with a Hawke Vantage 4-12x40 AO...it's still early yet but so far it's holding up and holding zero and that rifle has a beast of a recoil and shooting just under 24 fpe with JSB 18.13 grain pellets.
