My much anticipated Hatsan model 95 springer arrived today!Giddy as a school girl I opened the box to find a BEA-Utiful airgun from PA.But reading the 10-$10 slip velocities read less than expected. 719 fps high with a 682 fps low with a 701.25 average. The thing is I read about this AG is Hatsan 's 800 fps rating was with actual lead pellets apposed to other brands using polymer pellets for their ratings. Notice PA used the RWS Hobby at 11.9g pellet. I also ordered the JSB Match sampler pack. Figured I'd run a 100 or so Crosman Premiers through it to break it in with the Truglo sights, then mount the scope and see what the "Test Set" of JSB Matches would yield. A good cleaning of the barrel and a once-over of the gun and visually she is NICE! Beautiful wood and steel. Screws tight and locks up well.Out the door I go and she shoots high and to the right, big group. Adjusted the iron (plastic) sights and got it some what centered. One it the 10 and 3 within the 8 ring at only 20 yards is my best so far out of 30 pellets total. OK New gun, still diesels, armature shooter, but my 392 is a tack driver compared to this , even the cheapie Beeman Kodiak holds decent groups....My issue is they really fulfilled every obligation of the test, but I wonder since the gun performed low, if they would just include the chronograph slip as proof of the test and ship it... not pull it back and try another until it fulfilled the rating expectations.Bottom line Beefs>Low initial chrono reading.>Poor groupings>Gritty feeling when cocked. Are these issue expected to improve as the gun is broke in, say after 200-300 shots or more?I typically am not a picky consumer, and figure you get what you pay for, but other than cosmetic I am not seeing what all the Hooplah is about on this gun. Especially after being a member here and reading of the random clunkers you get in any airgun. Especially since I do not have a chronograph to verify improvement or decline in the velocities ... Oh and the skirts of the JSB Straton pellets in the sampler pack are a CRUSHED MESS!
Scott,Our apologies for being a bit late to this discussion. Our service department recently experienced a situation similar to yours in regards to the pellets being used for testing. This has prompted us to perform some testing of our own with the same ammunition. We rate the Mod 95's 800 FPS velocity with our Vortex Express 13.12gr pellet. A lighter pellet should (in theory) produce even higher velocities, however, the .22cal Hobby seems to perform poorly out of our spring/Vortex guns. We consistently saw approximately 15% lower velocities with that pellet than with our own, heavier Vortex Express. There is most likely nothing wrong with your rifle. We suggest our Vortex Express pellet - as it was developed specifically for our spring/Vortex rifles. If you experience any further problems or have any questions that you would like to ask us, feel free to contact us via our customer service form: http://www.hatsanusa.com/warranty-repair/customer-service-form/

Question #1) How can a pellet cause it to be gritty when cocking the gun?Question #2) QuoteOh and the skirts of the JSB Straton pellets in the sampler pack are a CRUSHED MESS! No response?

That alone means a lot to me! You are correct, the JSB pellets are not your issue, and very minor at all to me. It's only a few out of the entire tin.I honestly believed the slight "grittyness" would smooth out with use. But when mentioned here, others with more knowledge suggested it may be a symptom as to why the velocities were low. Now, that concerns me.I do however have my doubts that a lighter pellet would travel slower. If the RWS Hobby in a 11.9g is the root cause, I suggest you contact PA and let them know not to use that in their test verification. It is also my understanding that as a gun breaks-in it's velocities will stabilize and diminish slightly as the dieseling subsides. We are talking about a gun that is already 12.5% lower than you say it will perform, and with this low of a shot count it is understandably still dieseling. Without a chronograph of my own I have no way of testing your statement. I would love to load this with a pellet you suggest and retest it prior to sending it back. It is truely BEAUTIFUL!Your model 95 is highly recommended by many as the best you can get for what I can afford and I hoestly believe that.I paid for a 800 fps airgun, and also PA to verify it's performance. I instead received a airgun that is documented by the seller to not obtain these speeds and could potentially had an internal issue such as a seal... brand new out of the box. I have been in manufacturing for 20 years and know that this happens, we would like to, but you can not have 100% quality assurance. That is why both you and PA have warranties. Yes I can shoot it for another 28 days and see if the cocking smoothness improves... but the sub level performance shown on PA's chrono slip will always haunt me. Wondering if it will gradually slow perhaps unnoticed, and then finally fail... just after the one year warranty has expired. How do you suggest we rectify this? Just hold onto it and see if it improves? I don't feel comfortable with that. I have no way of verification for anything other than the "feel"Buy a Chronograph and the pellets you suggest? I do not have those funds available and have PAID to have this performed already with the purchase.Again, I appreciate your attention, but honestly do not have faith in this particular 95. Here is how she now sets awaiting PyramydAirs RMA complete as delivered with copies of their report. If there is a dispute, I will take it to a certified Gunsmith and have it retested. If all is good, I'm happy. If this is a solution, I feel either you or Pyramyd Air should flip the Gunsmith bill as...1.) You did not stipulate what pellets are needed for these velocities to be reached to either the Seller or the End user.2.) PA shipped it with sub-level reading using their test equipment, documented, that arose my concerns. If it does NOT perform as advertised, with your recommendations, then then I should receive full restitution for all funds. But AGAIN, I just contacted PA today and would like to hear from them, I am sure it will be fine.Your thoughts are welcome.Scott
Wow Yogi... just WOW. I never thought of that... Hmmm let me stew on it a while, don't know if I want to open that can-o-worms. After sleeping on it I am going to try and find if any of the PB guys I know have a chronograph. I know two who were into reloading so maybe theres a chance. If so I'll take the JSB Match Diabolos and see how they perform. This morning I received the RMA from PyramydAir as promptly as I hoped.But...I sent a few texts to friends on the way to work this morning and also checked with a several guys here at the Plant. Two connections with chrono's now made, one is the Son-in-Laws Grand-Dad who I can maybe see this weekend, the second is a guy here at work who is friends with an owner of a nearby Gun store. He has a test range out back all set up. He called him and we can go any night after work. Sound's actually kinda excited to see a Pellet Gun that will shoots like that. Tonight might actually work.
A little late getting there but we finished up about 8:00.
