Just got a 1720 a couple days ago.....cleaned the barrel first, not too dirty. Shot two wad cutters over the chrony: 20 shots each. RWS supermag, 9.3 gr. low 695.9 high 704.3 avg 700.4 es 8.39 sd 3.60. RWS Meisterkugeln 7.0 gr. low 771.7 high 790.8 avg 784.1 es 19.11 sd 7.48. Both are very accurate shooting two handed at 5 meters. I'll shoot from a rest this week and see how that works out.
Any one have experience with a 1720?

Thanks for the report. Do you agree with the "Two-Low-Medium" Loudness rating?

Here are the numbers for JSB MATCH EXACT DIABOLO 8.4 gr. Low 720.5 Hi 740.6 Avg. 730.7 ES 20.6 SD 6.08. I have not yet shot at any range greater than 5 meters but I'll try to get some groups shot at a longer range this week. The trigger is very good and is the only thing I have adjusted so far. About a quarter turn to lighten the pull weight a bit.
I agree with the low/med noise level. The noise level is lower than a modified 1377 on four pumps.

Cleaned my 1720 after 250 shots and found that it was not as fouled as my 1377 after the same number of shots using the same pellet. I lube with KRYTECH. Lubing pellets seems logical to me. What is the opinion of other forum members?[/b]

Unless each pellet can be uniformly lubed (and since they already are lubed with graphite, one of the slipperiest molecules known, from the factory about as uniformly as i could possibly hope for), i cannot justify going to the trouble of trying to fix what ain't broke...but that's just me.
No scientific data has been presented that i know of showing airguns (i said AIRguns) benefit from aftermarket pellet lubing. Some shadetree experts claim lubing prevents leading of the barrel. No scientific data that i know of has shown that healthy airgun barrels even get leaded at all. What darkens the patch is not lead...it's graphite. Have a used patch analyzed and let me know if any lead is found.
If you show that there IS lead in the bore, then you have to show that it stays. Not likely as lead is soft and quite possibly soon swept out. If it stays, that would constitute build up. You then have to show that the built up lead is affecting the performance...not an enviable task.
"Oh, my airgun started shooting poorly...i cleaned it...it then shot a lot better." That's a testimonial...it's not convincing.
"My barrel was dirty." No, that is graphite, not dirt. You can clean that out and after a few more shots, a patch will again reveal more graphite.
"Yuck, my barrel was filthy dirty right out of the box." No, the manufacturer was kind enough to protect the bore against corrosion...a lot easier to clean that out than to have to remove rust.
There are many threads on this subject...people talk a lot but they don't SAY much...just like me.

John I really tend to agree with you. However, when the likes of Allen Zasadny and Larry Durham recommend at least lubing pellets I take notice and at least read everything they write or say about the subject. I have never had any dealings with either of these gents or talked to them on this subject but I have talked to Dennis Quackenbush, who makes his own barrels, and he DOES NOT LUBE. So which way to go. To further confuse the subject I recently emailed the top FT and BR shooters that had email adds accessible asking their pellet prep routine. Not a scientific study by any means but interesting results. All responders DID SOMETHING. Minimal prep was Visually inspecting each pellet and storing them so as not to damage during transit to washing, weighing, lubing and swaging (not necessarily in that order). The gent that only inspected said he is satisfied with his results during competition. The gent that did the max prep is a world champion.

Thanks for the feedback, Spider. Definitely food for thought. SO many variables. I like that saying that "if hunting were easy, they'd call it shopping." If airguns were easily predictable, i guess they would be boring.
