Longer barrel on sumatra carbine.

Got my hands on a 24 inch sumatra barrel.... Considering fitting it on my. 22 carbine.
I use the rifle for pigeon pest control on farms, always with a 8.5inch LDC installed.
The extra length with LDC is no issue.
With the longer barrel I can get away with a 6 Inc LDC for similar suppression. It will be a full reflex LDC up to air tube ends .
In total the rifle will be only be 5,5 inches longer and +-300gr heavier. Still a lot lighter and more balanced than a full length 2500.
This mod should increase my shot count by 50% at 34 fpe .
Is it sacrilege to want to do this to the carbine?

Sounds like an interesting modification. The only thing not to like is the smaller air reservoir of the carbine. But you're used to that so getting a longer barrel to better use what air you DO have is a good idea. Plus, I think it'll look better. Hope you post pics here if you do go that route.

I'm a peaceful man and prefer the pursuit of peaceful sports. Those involving teams and balls of any sort tend to be deleterious to one's body and promote violence by both spectators and participants. The shooting sports, however, tend to promote self control and are peaceably participated in by those who know that their greatest challenge is their need to continually hone their own abilities.

I'd do it froggy, your gun is tuned incredibly well so it's easy on air, looking forward to see it too.

Placed the barrel in position... Looks very thin...a shroud should sort that.
I'll need to make a new font tube support without a front sight and with a larger barrel band because I don't want to turn the barrel down. I also want to modify the top tube end cap to get both tubes to the same length.

I made a barrel band that will be secured by one of the front sight holder nuts.
The front sight holder will be rotated 180 degrees... The front sight at the bottom can then be modified for bipod, torch or laser attachment.
Test fitting the perspex barrel band before casting it in stainless steel.

New barrel installed for testing.
Surprise! No velocity gain with 16gr jsb's still 870 fps on the same power wheel settings... 20fps gain for 18gr jsb's to 840fps.
With the power wheel to max I got 930 fps between 150bar and 110 bar with the short barrel....now it's 980fps from 120 to 80 bar (18gr jsb's...soft hammer spring)
Seems the rifle was set up perfectly for the 16 inch barrel.
I'm considering shortening the barrel to 20 inches.

While the rifle version was too long and heavy for my needs, if there was a "middle" Sumatra, with 20" barrel, 440ci, and 7lbs, that would have made a harder choice vs carbine.
