Hatsan 25 Supercharger Vortex .177 Great First Impressions

I wanted something a bit less powerful for around-the-yard plinking and short range hunting on my long treks. For eight bucks over a C note I ordered the Hatsan 25 Supercharger Vortex and have been very pleased with the result. The shot cycle with Vortex is very crisp, and the recoil reduction system on the Supercharger works great with the end result being little felt recoil. 7.4 grain Crosman Pointed pellets pass the chrony at 688 fps and I have 6.9 grain pellets on the way that I feel sure will hit the 700 fps mark as advertised. I was surprised that the trigger was pretty good out of the box, and is getting better as I continue to shoot. (No adjustments so far and it is crisp and predictable, not too heavy) While requiring a bit of effort, the break action is silky smooth, lockup is tight, and everything about the gun looks and feels like quality. I think I got lucky and got a keeper with this one.
A couple of minor annoyances are the safety being a little gritty (but lite grease and a drop of oil has helped that a great deal), and the scope mounts are Dovetail instead of Weaver. I have not decided if I will mount optics or just keep it simple and use the gun's open sights which are not too bad. As with any breakbarrel gun, most of the screws were loose out of the box so a good all round tightning and a few minutes cleaning the barrel and I am having some serious fun with the Supercharger Vortex. (About 120 pellets through the gun so far)

These pistols are tough to keep a scope in place on. If you decide to mount a scope you either need a one piece mount(grinding the corners to fit), or mounts with 4 screws and a stop--requires drilling a stop pin divot in the receiver. I did the divot method, and the recoil actually ovaled the hole a bit after several hundred shots. So the best option would be the one piece, but since they are all too long for the dovetails, you have to trim it up. I also don't suggest looking at the inside of the barrel too closely, you'll probably be upset. But... mine has shot a .4" 5 shot group @ 20 yards with a 2x scope from a sandbag. Also, it definitely shoots better if I don't hold it too tightly.

Nice review - how do you experience the cocking effort ?

Rudeboy, I have been shooting springers for quite a while and I don't find cocking the Vortex very difficult. Maybe it is a little different with the spring version, or maybe the effort needed is a bit overly dramatized, but it is not a problem for 60+ year old me...I have shot 25-30 pellets one right after the other and not thought about it. I do keep the cocking aid on the gun at all times.

Max, I had a thought that I am going to explore. I am going to try removing the rear sight and run a strip of metal from the rear sight screw hole to the scope mount. I will drill a hole in the strip so that I can use the rear sight screw to hold it in place, and then attach it to the one piece scope mount. It will be like having a remote scope stop pin, and hopefully prevent me from having to drill another hole in the gun... Will see if it looks reasonable in the next few days.

That's funny, I had thought about the piece of metal stop too. My older qb36 rifle uses something like this, but the metal piece is too thin so it chewed into the scope mount. If it is tall enough for good support on the rear ring, should work good unless the mounting screw shears off. Use a good grade fastener, the tops of these guns really get jerked around-- I'm thinking because of the sliding rail slamming about.
