Title: My Doomsday 2289 Backpacker Build/Mod
Post by: soolio on June 13, 2013, 01:52:08 PM
I finally received my 14.5" barrel from Crosman to go on my 2289. I put the 12" barrel that came with it on my 2240.

Mods to date:
Steel Breech
Leapers UTG 4x32 AO Mil Dot Scope with Weaver/Picatinny Mounts
DTP(dovetail to picatinny) Adapters
Trigger Job
Lighter Trigger Spring
Heavier Hammer Spring
1/2" Barrel Shroud
3" x 3/4" Muzzle Brake
Tin Can Shims in the Barrel band (barrel spacer on the way to help stabilize this unfortunate design flaw)
50 Pellets and light tools(allen keys) stored inside stock
Removed Pin Release/Installed Grip Screws for stock

The balance is exceptional with the scope mounted right above the grip area and a little bit of weight added to the stock.

I really like the scope, especially the Adjustable Objective and the 5 yard to infinity Parallax. Makes a huge difference when it comes to backyard blasting.

Overall accuracy and power is much better with the 14.5" barrel and the heavier hammer spring. No idea why Crosman would change to 12", but no worries as it looks awesome on my 2240 ::)

I'm thinking that if I shroud the rest of the barrel it will fix the barrel-band-shifting-while-pumping problem, as well as look pretty sweet.

Its not bad with the dot on it at 10m but out more the dot covers up the bullseye. I can hit a soup can at 50ft. This is at 5m the lower one was without aiming with the dot.

Is that a Walther dot scope you have? Green dot? If so, I have one and the dot is huge! Probably will put it on one of my BB shooters.

Hey George
Take a look at the Leepers red dot it is about $30. on amazon and at 25yds I can just see my 2in bull, with it set on 1. I will set it up next time so it is right on when it is at the bottom of the bull. so the bull sits on top of the dot (gotta be a strong dot LOL)   ;D   I like that sight it is light and not too big  :D

It's ok as a plinker. I mounted a pistol scope on my 2240 because I think cross hairs are more precise for target work. I have a BSA Edge 2x. Got it from PA for around $50.

Thanks guys, it's very accurate and consistent at 8 pumps and 10-15 yards...all off-hand shooting...I cant wait to put it on a rest, I probably be able to stuff 'em all in a dime ;D

Is the hole to put on a tko already in the barrel or does it need to be drilled?

No hole needed for any reason. It just slips on and is held in place with two set screws.

Thanks Mike. I'd like to take credit for it, but my technique needs work. All credit goes to my little friend, Mr 2240! All he needed was someone to load him and pull the trigger.  ;D

I received my Barrel Spacer from Crosman and it really stiffened up the barrel and barrel band shifting problem...GREAT SUCCESS!!! This plus the "Tin Can Mod" really fixed the problem good. I'll post pics tomorrow morning;)

I'd say my 2289 is pretty accurate!!! Now that the barrel-spacer/tin can mod/shroud are all holding it tight. I can't wait to try it with the scope(It's pulling double duty with my 2240).

Here's the proof with 8 pumps at 10 meters off-hand...

Thanks! The barrel spacer is an absolute MUST on the 2289, but definitely wouldn't hurt on the 2240. No room on mine with the Barrel Band Forearm though;) I got a couple days off so I'm gonna try and put that How-to-shroud tutorial together.

While I was messin with my 2240 in pistol-mode, I put the TKO 6.5 on my 2289 with 14.5" barrel

The noise of the pumping almost defeats the purpose of the TKO :o

Here are a couple PICS...

Did you add a felt dot on the tube under the forearm? It won't get rid of all the clacking but it will deaden it...

I actually bought both sized spacers at the time, the 1300A008 that fits 2289's and 13xx's, and 2260-006 that fits the 2240 2250 2400kt.

I just got mixed up when I wrote the post.

I found a rubber Fender Washer at my local Ace....I used some 3M to stick it temporarily and try it...it is really really quiet.

Maybe a little JB Weld for a better stick.

Hey Mike, sweet builds man!  8)
I have a project going on that will blow Ed's mind! Let's just say it's a long one! As in 46-47 inches long and involves my other 1322 with a 24 inch barrel and maybe a 7.5 inch TKO. I am using my imagination on this beast. I am running into one issue, that being flex. Do you think the barrel spacer will help tighten things up? I am also thinking a Michael Chavka barrel band may do the trick as well.

I will create my own thread called Long Tom and post pics there so I don't hijack this one.  ;)

It really isn't a backpacker any more with the 14 inch barrel and all, I don't care it shoots very well and very accurate  :D it really is fun to shoot as a pistol, maybe I will leave it that way, I DON"T THINK SO!!!!
