Very interesting thread. I took the time to read it all. I see many have concerns, and not with out warrant ill add. Many have stated several well thought and spoken view points and made valid argument to support their position. I may be chiming in late on the topic, but i felt compelled nontheless to contribute my two cents.
As it was stated this kind of exposure is a double edged sword. That is with out refute or recourse. But what i see is something that might have been over looked in what appeares to have become a political debate of sorts. What i see is this, this community has been given a rarely seen position of potential and great influence on a not well known subject. If gta was to become the face of air guns, it will be our actions, our words, our ethics that will give the basis of a national or even world view of our hobby, our sport, our happy place. I believe that given such a rare opportunity, it should be embraced as a new born child, with care, love, and gentleness. Drop the baby and people will decide we are not fit to be parents and take the child from us. Argue amongst our selves and the baby is in danger of conflict and should be placed in more capable hands. Show that we are capable, nuturing parents and we would gain the trust and respect of our neighbor's to do what is right by the child and they will leave us alone, maybe even want to experiance the joy of having one themselves.
Fear of the unkown is always greater than fear of the known. A wise man once told me fear is an acronym for False Expectations Appearing Real. And i see there is fear in this community as to what might happen to our guns should the world fear us having them. We dont know that they will fear us or our guns, that is why it is the fear of the unknown we must face together.
As a community with concerns and aspirations, we should resolve to institute a census on what direction we would have our air guns go into the future as, lest we be divided amongst ourselves. Potential menace bathed in shadows of secrecy, respected and valued assests of shooters and hunters alike, or simply forgoten with the passings of time and become a lost art, if you will.
I personally also harbor fear of regulation and restrictions admittedly, and would love to see nothing change as it is today. But change is always inevitable, change brings growth, and with out change and growth, we would still have the red riders of yester years today. This is our eras child, and as parents it normal for us to fear the childs future and protect its best interests. But we should also note that what is best for the child may not always be what we as parents want for ourselves.
I leave you with this final thought to ponder on gta community, if we cant win over eachother here in privacy, how could we ever win over the nation or world in public?

I know this thread is 2 1/2 years old and I haven't even watched the referred to broadcast but I did read 4 pages of this discussion.
At this moment you cannot second guess my opinion...because you don't know my opinion. I haven't exposed it yet.
I do not cast my pearls amongst the swine. It seems they always have a way of trampling on them regardless of how well I polish them up.
Can you gather an opinion of me from this statement? Shucks, maybe I should have kept quiet.
Life has "changed" a lot in the last two and a half years. I'm not happy with most of those changes.
Fortunately, for the most part, public opinion of the airgun sport hasn't changed so much.
When it does, the sport will never be the same again.
I love my airguns but I don't have to publicly broadcast it in an ad campaign to others that always know more about it than I do. I will continue to share the sport with close friends and those I think can appreciate it but I will not offer it cart blanch to the swine. They simply have nothing to offer to the sport. It is inevitable that change will come but we do not have to go looking for it if things are okay the way they are.
Kaz, "Fear of the unkown is always greater than fear of the known."
I do not fear the unknown but I'm very concerned with "the known". John Doe public and government do have a reputation.
I think that is what many here are trying to say.
"Walk softly, Grasshopper", ...and carry a well tuned AG!

Of course that is what they have stated. Do you believe me to be so obtuse that i cant pick up the apparent? In fact i do believe i said that many had stated their opinion and submitted their evidence and "not with out warrant." As far as other always knowing more about a subject than you, or casting your pearls to swine, no need to make it personal and get all biblical about it. My statement was generalized and not specific to you, sorry you took it so. Or maybe im not, as you've so clearly stated you keep your opinions unexposed. So who am i to say weather i may or may not have offended or if it warrants an appology. But you do state you are not bearing knowledge of the cast in the thread nor did you read all the comments made. When you state others always know more than you, perhaps you need to look no further than your own 1/2 cocked comments to remedy that. But again who am i to judge? My statement was one comming from seeing strife amongst this group, which you clearly validate in your response, exists on this topic as well as the pages left before us. I just wonder why you would write such a defensive reply to my comment. I spoke of finding common ground so we dont fight with ourselves and in private at that, so if a public situation arose again, we wouldnt have such harsh words to say about eachothers beliefs. Where am i wrong to suggest such a thing? One of the last comments made before you get to this page is " cant please everyone" followed by "you got that right old friend". Im sure they will be happy to read 2 1/2 years later, it holds true. I will not respond to this thread again, so reply if you must, but know ill not bother to read it. I didnt come to argue, i came to promote common ground.

Kaz, it's late so I may need to re-read my comment tomorrow to see if it really is as you say.
I assure you it was not a direct and personal response to your post.
I read the pages of this post until one mentioned it being an old thread and then skipped to the end at which time I read your post. Being fresh in my mind and having posted something I felt really was at the heart of the matter, I quoted one line from your post which I found useful to surmise my opinion of the whole matter as I saw things (I didn't even use your name at first but added it as credit).
You did exactly as I supposed others might do concerning the AG community, you became aware of my opinion, was offended, and now have attacked me. I give you my word that I did not take your post personally. Also, I did not say "others always know more than" me, I said the "swine" do. That is, there are always others out there that do not share the same views on any matter. The "swine" in my view are those that could not care less for others views but will use the system of laws to trample on the rights of some.
I never referenced the Bible, which in fact I do daily gather principles from.
There is no need for strife in this shared group at all but there should always be room for differing opinions amongst friends.
My post is an effort to prevent strife and to bolster the opinions of those that wish to avoid strife with the rest of the world outside of the friendly AG community.
Until I voiced my opinion you had no beef with me. We'd never even met. If you are truly a "peacemaker" then I would wish to be friends with you. But there are many outside the AG family that are not and I am careful who I invite into my life, even hobbies.
I do appreciate your strong opinion and hope that we will always be on the same side when it comes to enjoying the sport of air guns.
Don't feel obligated to respond to this post. I think we have much in common and should focus on those things.
It was never my desire to offend you or anyone else by stating my position on the matter.
Peace be with you, sincerely.
