Tech Force TF-99 in .22 cal. opinions ??

Hey, Iam in the process of acquiring a Tech Force TF-99 in .22 cal. from Howie. I know absolutely nothing about the Tech Force rifles and even less about under lever cocking rifles. So it would seem that these under lever rifles since having fixed barrels should be very accurate shooters which is exactly what Howie has told me. Do any of you out there own a tf-99 premier in .22 cal. that can give me a mini review and tell me the weaknesses and strong points of this rifle ? His pictures show a real nice stock and it looks like quality construction, the bluing looks great to. How are the factory triggers on them ? Can they be adjusted? Thank you, Brent

no adjustment for the triggers, quality can be iffy on older rifles, new seem good but need TLC, possible gas ram conversion possible..if you run into problems let me know, have worked on the model some...

I have a TF-99P.The metal work is very poorly done.It is the only pellet gun that I truly regret buying. The trigger pull on mine is not bad.I can think of nothing else good about it.

its a heavy gun as mine had accuracy that was iffy.took many shots to settle down.finally tore it down and replaced some innards.i get 795-810 now on chronie with a fairly light pellet but accuracy got a bit better.it is a good looking gun though and a bit on the stiff side to cock.once i put a decent scope on it with a 1 piece mount that helped a little more.defiantly not a carry round in the woods hunting gun though.

Not sure if it will be quite the same spec' as the UK equivalent model.
It can benefit if you were to make a piston liner, I have one made from some stainless shim.
Smooths down the cocking stroke & eliminates the remaining lateral movement of the spring.
Piston needs polishing. Upper & lower faces of trigger sear need to be smoothed out (not rounded off) due to sear being made from riveted leaves of metal.Makes for a reasonably smooth trigger when coupled with a polish of the piston, particularly around where the sear engages.
Lateral play in the cocking lever, not too much of an annoyance but some have drilled the pivot & replaced with an oversized pin.
Works best with a JSB type of pellet, though not especially pellet-fussy.
Capable of good accuracy.
Mine is tuned & has a tophat & better spring guide. Your piston probably takes a different seal (the more recent one's do) but mine being 5 yrs old can use the Weihrauch HW77, 25mm clipover piston seal. Yours will probably use something entirely different.
Competent shooter on a budget.

Drove mine down to Mike Mileck and let him do his Voodoo. Took 1 1/5 to 2 hrs and it is a whole new gun. It was accurate from the start but now it is smoooth. No twang and the trigger sweet. Been thinning out the local tree rat population with it. It shoots nickel sized groups @25 yds with a Williams peep sight.

I had one and it was very accurate and easy to shoot. I just didn't shoot it anymore.

I love mine. It has a Maccari spring that I somehow wound up with in a big pile-o-parts trade and has the smoothest shot cycle of any springer I own.
I stripped, deburred and lube tuned it. Added shrink wrap to both ends of the spring and polished the trigger parts. For a direct sear release it is actually pretty smooth.
My wife also likes it because it is very forgiving, not really hold sensitive and she can put 3 in a dime at 15m.

Kent, from what I have been told and read, the tf 99 comes with a Maccari spring from the factory, that’s why they shoot so hard, so for a inexpensive under barrel cocker with a maccari spring its a fantastic air gun to do a full lube/tune on. They say its very accurate even out to 50 and 65 yards, in .22 cal. with cphp pellets ive read guys shooting mid 800's fps with them, the .177's go way over 1000fps and almost 1200fps with the light lead 177's. Iam getting a real clean one from howie in a few days and I plan on sending it to mike melick for a full tune, he wants to do a nitro piston conversion on it but then I lose the nice maccari spring. ill have to think about the np conv. but definitely have the tune done, I have a brand new rws 3x9 ao scope to put on her with a 1 piece leapers mount, I cant weight to see how she shoots, iam going to record how she does when I first get her and then again after she has mikes wizard work done. But to have a mike melick tuned 22 with a maccari spring in it, I think ill be in air gun heaven, for a low buck air gunner like me it will be so cool.....

I don't believe the TF99 ever came with a Maccari Spring in them. People might have bought a Maccari spring and installed it or paid to have it installed. In that case theres very few out there compared to the thousands of 99's that are out there in all. I wouldn't believe it has a Maccari spring in the gun unless it comes with a receipt of the work done. I have read on various older post in Yellow and Crosman forums about guns being sold with Mac springs in them, but never read were this was a documented fact. I think Ill try to email Mr Maccari for a definitive answer on this.

I just did some research and found a old post in the old GTA forums about the Maccari springs in the TF97's and TF99's. It looks like the former "Compasseco" Used to offer a upgrade Maccari spring in the purchase of the new rifles. They didn't just come in them it was a option. This only lasted a couple years if that. The post i read was from October of 2009. It said that going back from there that 6-8 years ago was when they would have had the option of getting one of his springs installed by the one and only Airgunsmith that Compasseco had on staff. After the Airgunsmith from Compasseco left to take a job with B-Square, Maccari quit selling Compasseco his springs. Problem is that Compasseco kept advertising the spring upgrade service for years after the fact. So......I would say that if the Tf-97 or TF99 was bought from them after say 2001 that theres not a chance that you have a Maccari spring in your gun. And if you have one from before then you would have had to pay extra to have one installed by there in house Airgunsmith. I would imagine that there as rare as hens teeth then.

I think you should try to email Mr Maccari for a definitive answer on this. All the adds ive seen on the tf 99 said they came with his sping installed from new.

The TF99's are made in China. They didn't put Maccari springs in them from the factory.

My first post - I got into airguns this year. I had a Daisy and then a powderburner as a teen. After some investigating, I bought a TF99. I think the wood finish is first rate. It shot fairly well out of the box but the sights were offset and could not be adjusted far enough left. I added a Leapers scope. After a slight recrown, relube and small brass bushing over the pin on the cocking lever slide, it was much smoother cocking and shooting. It shot .22 CP 14.3g at about 720fps. Very accurate. Not too hold sensitive. The trigger was always a little heavy but OK for a single stage. After about 2000 rounds the trigger starting acting up and firing when I took the safety off. I did some work to increase the safety engagement and sear engagement which sort of fixed the problem and then the main spring broke. I emailed Compasseco/Pyramyd for a awhile and was told I would get replacement parts but they never came. And now no response from the contact. I decided that I like sidelevers better, so I put the TF99 aside and got a couple of other rifles to play with. The TF99 can be a good rifle with a little work. A more advanced trigger is needed. The TF rifles can be a good value but all seem to have some mechanical/tolerance/QC issues.

I have a TF 87. It has a similar trigger to the TF 89s. What I don't like about it is the cocking arm is really loose and sometimes doesn't go straight back into the grip.
I never had trouble with the .22 TF 99 I had. I just stopped shooting it in favor of some nicer guns guns I've gotten lately.

Mike, I understand that at one time you could get one with a Macarri spring but wasnt it a option upgrade through Compesseco? Or did Tech Force order the springs and install them abroad?

South summit sold a tf 99 with a macarri spring but it only came from them in .177 so macarri must have sold some springs to a few companies .. i dont think they would advertise having his spring in the rifles if it wasnt his spring he could go after them big time....
