i am curious because the action screws are phillips head just wondered if id end up stripping out the phillips heads if i ever had to remove them for other work
You can go to Lowe's and get the socket type screws for the xl. size M6-1.00 x 12 for the front and M6-1.00 x 20 for the rear. They can be found in the screw section in the specialty bins.
I don't have the experience of disassembling large numbers of these Crosmans, but when I took apart the hinge joint of my Nitro Venom I was impressed by how rough the finish was on both of the surfaces that each pivot washer contacted. The milled round recesses were the roughest, and I could see that the original plastic washers were not rotating within or rubbing against those recesses -- all the sharp burrs were holding them firmly in place. The washers were rubbing against the inside faces of the front part of the action, and those faces were rough enough that they were scraping away the plastic. I did some smoothing there, figuring that if the tool marks were sharp enough to scrape plastic, they'd also do damage to brass or bronze.
...Stick the screw in a drill and bevel by holding to a stone or in my case a grinding wheel. With both turning i made the bevel, then to a stone and then to a fine sandpaper. Worked great...
