Title: You get what you pay for I guess....pic.
Post by: dryanw on January 03, 2013, 02:44:57 PM
Can you believe the difference between these gamo matches and RWS Meister-whatavers. Too be fair not every gamo looked like this but they were all oxidized and generally poor looking. Amazon will be getting them back. There is no way I'm shooting these things in any of my rifles.  I've gotten slightly better quality from buying Gamo's at Bass Pro. But I wouldn't buy them from Amazon right now.

Was your tin not padded in the Amazon shipping box? I've have 3 boxes shipped to me from them with no padding lately where two boxes had damaged items. Ridiculous.

Not surprising if they're made in China.

Sadly Gamo has made some changes to their line up of standard lead pellets. The tins look similar but that's about it. Gamo match pellets used to be a pretty good deal as I found them very accurate in several guns and pretty cheap too. After I saw first hand what the "new and improved" pellets looked like (I ordered some .22 Magnum  and they went back too) I won't be in any hurry to order any more Gamo  >:( . When my existing stock of Gamo pellets are gone I may look at Peak pellets. I like using the Gamo for plinking and general shooting.

Same experience here.  I needed some .177 JSB's and PA was out.  Amazon had them Prime--free shipping.  The tins were packed loose in a large box.  Beat to heck.

Those RWS meisterkugeln are very nice pellets. Too bad I got rid of the only gun I had that shot them well.

If Amazon isnt getting them from Pyramid Air (which if the order is eligible for Prime shipping then they are not) the packaging will most likely be sub par :(

Wow those pellets are total junk. I have Chinese Industry brand pellets that are better than those. They are about 15-20 years old, so maybe the quality was better back then. I don't shoot them, I keep them around mostly for nostalgia. I use Crosman premier super match pellets and so far they look and shoot pretty good.

Agreed. Whats wrong with complaining about a bad product? It keeps other members from wasting money on a product that doesn't deserve to be put through their rifles. So now people know not to buy Gamo Match pellets from amazon because they are junk. I've gotten them at Bass Pro and they've been fine. But don't buy them from Amazon.  And now I know not to buy Industry brand pellets. Pretty productive if you ask me.

Well...if you need an outlet, a forum wouldn't be my first choice.
Some of the posts provided nothing but a general brand bash, not the first time.
Ryan, your last post shows you have a good outlet for the same pellets, and you should have posted this info earlier, and let folks know where they can get good ones...and that you've had success with them.  It's only this last post that you inform everyone about this.    After reading your last post,  Amazon seems to be the fault here, not the manufacturer.  Everyone (Edit:  Should know) that Amazon sells a lot of items as a buyout/closeout vendor.  Ryan, I think it's great that you are using different pellets, and not getting lassoed into opinion that you only need "X" brand anything. Airguns all have different likes, as you've found, they all are different and you are taking the time and initiative to explore them in depth.  Good On You Man! :D

I have had some great success with the meistergugelns at 20 yards in the past.
You cannot expect the same level of quality between every company.

One reason why I love RWS pellets.  The quality is outstanding.  I've never found a damaged pellet in any of my RWS tins.

Nam I never found damaged RWS pellets either as long as the tin wasn't damaged. Same with H&N too. JBS were the worst I've seen in that regard with their skirts that are too soft. I almost always had damaged pellets even in good tins.

Did you read all of my post or just the bash part?
So you don't consider recommending a pellet that DOES work and is NOT defective to be at all productive?

BTW I get those from Amazon. I didn't think it was important to mention that, but I guess if Amazon is shipping bad lots of some pellet brands then it is.

I rather think the Gamo pellets are junk no mater where they come from. I got one of those sampler packs with a gun deal. Happy I didn't buy them retail. Their right up there with Daisy pellets.

Take a moment and read followed after your "quoted" post by bullit.  Ryan posted that the Gamo pellet does very good for him...and had a good source (BPS),for them.  So,  they aren't junk. I've been thru a few guns, and it's funny what works in one man's gun, won't in others.  So, Heck why would someone tell anyone, that Any pellet, or the one that some guy likes, is "JUNK".  Doing so is self centered, and definitely not a seasoned statement.   If they work for the Guy,...Go for it!

Here's the skinny on the current Gamo pellets.  Sometime maybe last year, folks noticed a pronounced change in the Gamo pellets.  Just about every single pellet in the lineup was different.  It soon became apparent that Gamo went to another manufacturer.  There were side-by-side comparisons posted over on the Yellow and you could see that the quality had dropped several notches.  Guns that shot the old match wadcutters consistently could not digest the new ones.  And I noticed that the pellet weights have drifted down a few tenths of a grain, as well.  Even the older Gamo pellets had quality control issues.  Another fellow weighed his pellets and compared them to the published weights on the tins.  There was a wide disparity.  But, back to the current fodder, if you have gone through your large bulk purchase of the older Gamo pellets your gun or guns favored, be aware that you will have to start the search all over again.  The new pellets are NOT the same as those sold a year or two ago.  How to tell them apart?  Best way is to compare the old tins to the new ones.  On some the photos have changed.

There, that useful enough for you?

PS - It's useless to compare one pellet to another.  While those RWS pellets look great, they may not shoot worth squat in your gun.  Why many folks like the Crosman HP's and the old Gamo Match.  Cheap but accurate enough for informal work.

I don't really agree about comparing quality of pellets. I have been impressed with the RWS quality. I have RWS pellets that will not shoot accurately out of my main gun. That's meaningless and doesn't mean the pellets are not quality. It just has to do with the characteristics of the particular pellet and what the gun likes. A poor quality pellet is going to be poor quality out of any gun. It may shoot well out of a particular gun, but if the pellets vary in size or weight so will the shooting. The quality of the RWS pellets is high. If the size is acceptable to a particular gun they will shoot consistently.

CPHPs out of the tin are fairly decent quality, but vary by size quite a lot. This is going to produce flyers. The RWS do not vary like this and you don't get the fliers.

Well, like you said, you get what you pay for.  Crosman tins aren't target fodder but not expensive.  JSB's are very consistent in QC, as well.
