Setting a spring

I will be tuning my Phantom sometime in the next few weeks and I bought the 1/2" threaded rod to set the E3650. How long should I leave it compressed on the threaded rod?
Thanks,
Scotty

Put it in the gun.. it will set it the first time its cocked..
And if you must set it out side the gun on a length of
threaded rod.... how do you intend to reduce the risk
of the thread nicking / marking the inside of the spring..
there like 170lbs or more of force tyreing to make the spring
go side ways & grind against the treads of the rod...
every nick/mark is a potental point of brakeage...

I read somewhere (last year - sorry, can't remember where) that about a half-hour is good. About to try it myself with a new spring for my Quest.

Pete is right. The first time you cock the gun, it will be set and you do not need to let it sit cocked for it to set. It will be set in a matter of seconds and the good thing about not pre-setting a spring before installation is that when it is set internally (in the gun) it will be set to the optimum of that particular gun. I never preset springs when I was in the tuning business because I would never be able to do it as well as the gun would.
