Title: The Modern Pneumatic Airgun by H.M. Buckley
Post by: mojomoto on March 06, 2011, 09:41:43 PM
Looking for anybody that might have the book for sale.
Looking for a summer shop project. Thought an air rifle might be fun.

Are you wanting to make one?

In case you cannot locate a copy.
Here is the last known good e-mail
for Mr. Buckley.
[email protected]
It might take a day or two for him to respond,
but he will respond.

He does have two books in circulation now.
The first one uses a bottle in the forward position,
and he did another book for a build that uses the
bottle in the rear. At the time I contacted him, he
only had the second book available which was not the one
I wanted.

In my correspondence with him, I got the impression
that they are printed in limited runs and usually sold
before they are received from the publisher.

Good luck brother, they are fine books, and a lot
can be learned from them.

If you find a copy here in the states, it is hard to talk
folks out of them.
Here is another link with his contact info;

Edited for pour spelling, added second link.

Yes. I am a machinist (average one) and like to tinker. Just got done making a steam engine and I will customize a motorcycle here and there for myself or friends..... ;D

I really just want a messed up big bore. 9mm or so. Id like to use the springs and valve. Basically  tear it apart and learn. Im a visual person.

My plan is.... ::)The receiver would be fairly straight forward in internal workings. The strange part of my idea is to have the barrel run down the center of the air tank. The barrel would sandwich the tank between the receiver and an end cap. Wouldn't look conventional at all. more like a M1919 Browning than a hunting rifle.  ;D

Thanks Bill for the info. I found the same. I was more wondering if anybody bought the book and then changed their mind about making one. Thank you though!!

Well i want to build one to but i'm at an unfair advantage as i'm "mechanically inclined" at best but certainly not skilled in any metalworking trade, i can use a pair of tin snips quite handily  ;D but thats about as close to metalworking as i get. I actually spent 1/2 hour today at Harbor Freight tool staring at china &^^& built lathes and other implements of wasting time and plotting my own bigbore build.lol, see how messed up that will turn out? If you already have those pieces of equipment available to you and the skills to use them then BUILD MAN BUILD!!!   ;D   I'd say though, to start with checking out the way the known builders build their guns.. many use QB78's then convert them. QB's are inexpensive, lots of mods available and a decent platform for a Bigbore build up, even if you just use parts of it like the trigger group, test stock, etc and make / mod the rest.. just a thought. Good luck with your plans on a build, keep us posted, J

I have a mini lathe. (it is amazing how much ive used the thing. Ive resized a lot of carburetor jets on it.) Its very accurate for small parts. I also have a smaller/mid size bench mill. (Grizzly) Not like i need it. I can use the machines where I work but that means i have to stay at work....Get my drift? ;)
I have basic plans already written up but the valve, valve material and size of valve ??? I like looking at parts diagrams so.....that helps. ;D
I have access to any metal I might need. I found out, threw here, where to get rifled barrels. Once summer vacation starts...Ill take a serious look at it giving it a good try. (Nope. Not a teacher. Stay at home father of two great little girls.)
If you find or hear of any water or fire damaged BB gun. Please get a hold of me.
I think you might have a good plan yourself. Thanks for the ideas.
Harbor Freight is where i bought my mini lathe. Its been cheap entertainment for me. I think you would really enjoy machining. You seem like the hands on type. ;)

What do you think of my gun idea? In satin black and foldable stock with Bi pod. 9mm/.357 bolt action with automatic feed. My plan holds multiple balls with gravity feed for simplicity. 8)
