Anybody seen this yet? http://bugasalt.com/ (http://bugasalt.com/)
It's a nerf looking air shotgun that shoots salt for shooting bugs around the house.
I've used aluminum foil, paper towels and just air in a 1377 and P17 for fly eradication however this seems like a more efficient solution.
Makes me consider what type of shot cup I should use in a pellet gun to contain sand or salt for similar use. Any suggestions?
..and yes, I did order one ;-)
-
I don't think a cup or wad type container would work, as it would be shot out along with the salt. Why don't you just use the felt cleaners? The big difference is the sale is not supposed to destroy the fly, where the felt cleaners would probably leave a mess
-
Well the shot cup coming out really wouldn't be an issue, assuming it didn't prevent the target from being hit. The issue with using felt cleaners, aluminum foil, paper towel and and like is simply accuracy. A fly is a small target-- I could hit one with my 717 and a match pellet but then I'd break the window :-) Being able to shoot 2-3 feet away with a small shotgun pattern would be useful. *(&^, I'd like a choke which could expand it to 4 feet-- now I'm dreaming :-)

Don't even consider shooting salt through a good barrel. Very corrosive. Regards, Tom
-
Very true, salt is corrosive. One could use sugar instead-- then you'd have lots of ants to shoot later as well ;)
Some fine sand would probably work-- I could imagine you could have quite a payload in .22 such as a 2240 or 1322.
I'd hate to get bits of sand in my seals though! :'(
-
holy &^^&, I can't believe I didn't google this before: http://bugblaster.net/index.html (http://bugblaster.net/index.html)
..a barrel addon that is specifically made for shooting salt-- the guy even sells a 2240 on his site in a kit!
"The Bugblaster is attached to the muzzle of your air gun by sliding the stainless steel tube into the muzzle and securing it with the enclosed bungee. The Bugblaster attaches and detaches in seconds. "
He also sells "shot shells", which appear to be the gamo/rat shot type shells.

Yup, me and the boys at work have been talking it over....GROUP BUY! We need these ASAP.
-
Somewhere else these were discussed. You're gonna have salt all over the place like sand at the beach. Me, I've got one of those that shoot a flat perforated waffle. I'll leave the salt on the margarita glass, thanks.
-
These look pretty effective and fun for clearing out the flies. It would probably be wise to get one of the BIG containers of salt, even with the 50-60 shots this thing is supposed to get. Nice show no fly guts are left over, but that salt does have to go somewhere....
-
The bugasalt looks interesting, but that Bug Blaster... THAT looks like something I wanna get my hands on! Especially since I just ordered my CCS 2300 ;) Wonder how well it'd work on these mosquitoes down here...
-
That Bug blaster is basically a bent tube (I assume so you can drop the salt in there and it doesn't fall out) that has an insert that goes into the end of a barrel to attached it. It would seem that you could make one of those out of a piece (or could of pieces) of PVC pipe pretty easily. Drill a hole in the top that you put a rubber stopper in to fill it up. Quick, somebody beat me to it!
-
That's what I need to take out the wasp always hovering around the yard!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
This statement on their site made me chuckle.
Caution: The Bugblaster could turn you into a “red neck” and is somewhat addictive. Some cases of people leaving doors open so bugs could come in have been reported.
Bart don't leave the door open! hehehe
-
With one of those I could see myself visiting one of the close neighbors with horses. "May I please have access to your barn so that I can shoot some flies"? I don't really want to shoot that inside...salt is hygroscopic and very soon I'd have high-concentration droplets of salt water all over the place...:)
cheers,
Douglas

My son just told me yesterday he sent the guy $35 I believe and is waiting delivery of 2 guns of which 1 is for me ...
In watching the silly videos and reading also about the Bug-Blaster it became apparent SAND could also be used. ( Dry, clean Sandblaster type sand or glass beads )
If this guy actually gets product into the market it's going to be pretty cool !!
-
Never thought about using airguns in this way, lol. I would like to hear how it works from someone who purchases one. Might be nice not to have to chase flies around with a fly-swatter ever again. :D

Now I would be interested in one shooting sugar to nail the yellow jackets and wasps competing for sugar water on my humming bird feeders. At times I have swarms of the "dang" robbers and the birds are afraid of them too. john

I'm sorry.....but this is noting a can of WD40 and a lighter can't do.
I Love the smell of WD40 in the morning.

I really thought somebody would go and hack something simple up-- nobody else did so I had to :-)
Untested on live game yet except for a gummy bear which I wet and then shot so I could see the pattern. It was pretty dense, although I might have used a little too much salt ;-)
I had a bit of plastic pipe lying around and cut a small piece of plastic tubing to attach the pipe to the end of my 2250. I lit a candle and quickly melted a couple of bends in the pipe. Then I drilled a hole into it at the bottom of the bend and put a screw in it that I could remove to drop salt into. I used the drilled out cone from a blowgun dart as a funnel. Due to the bend and the flexible tubing attaching it to the barrel you could go and "muzzle load" easily as well.
I'm using it on a Crosman 2250 with a power adjuster on it that I've turned all the way down-- it appears I can shoot from a pretty good distance (i.e. at least 3 feet+) and still have a deadly group.
I'm sure when I'm letting the dog in and out tomorrow some flies will "accidentally" enter the range, I mean kitchen ;-)

First off, the People for Ethical Treatment of Junk Food (PETJF) are appalled at your Gummy Bear violence! (Who wants salty gummy bears!?) :P
BUT, I like your design so far, and agree that its odd we all took so long lol. Waiting for my CCS 2300 to be built and shipped, but that's one of the first things I wanted to do after reading all of this! ;D From the looks of it, the plastic tube could be something as simple as a body from a cheapo BIC pen... Just need to come up with a way to make it w/ a hopper-type setup to get a few separate shots in one fill... hmmm can't wait to tinker with one...
Might have to start up a Projects thread over in the machining/crafting section...
(and good luck with your fly targets, gotta protect all that endangered junk food!)

Kcatx, that looks like some kind of crack pipe or something. LOL.
